Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly meticulous and experienced Tax Compliance Officer to manage and ensure the complete and accurate adherence to all direct and indirect tax regulations in India.
The ideal candidate will possess deep technical knowledge of various tax laws (including GST, TDS, and Income Tax), practical experience with e-filing portals, and proven ability to manage complex tax audits and reporting cycles within a regulated corporate environment.
Key Responsibilities and Technical Focus:
Tax Filing and Compliance Management:
- Ensure the timely and accurate electronic filing of all applicable direct and indirect tax returns, including but not limited to Goods and Services Tax (GST - GSTR-1, GSTR-3B, GSTR-9/9C), Tax Deducted at Source (TDS - Form 24Q, 26Q, etc.), and Corporate Income Tax Returns (ITR).
- Proactively monitor and manage a stringent tax compliance calendar, utilizing tax management software to track all critical filing deadlines, statutory due dates, and payment schedules to mitigate penalty risks.
- Oversee the computation and deposit of monthly tax liabilities, ensuring correct head and section allocation in challans (GST portal, Income Tax portal).
Tax Audits and Assessments:
- Lead and execute internal tax audits to verify transactional compliance and data integrity before external filings.
- Act as the primary point of contact for and provide comprehensive support during external tax audits, assessments, and scrutiny cases initiated by central or state tax authorities ( GST or Income Tax Department).
- Prepare detailed working papers, reconciliations (GSTR-2A/2B vs.books), and technical explanations to effectively address queries from auditors and assessing officers.
Record Keeping and Documentation:
- Establish and maintain a rigorous, auditable record-keeping system for all tax payments, returns, reconciliations, challans, notices, and correspondence in compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Ensure all relevant documentation, including invoices, Input Tax Credit (ITC) documentation, and reverse charge mechanism (RCM) records, are securely stored and readily retrievable for statutory and internal review.
Tax Advisory and Risk Mitigation:
- Analyze complex business transactions, contracts, and new operational initiatives to identify potential tax implications (place of supply under GST, permanent establishment criteria).
- Provide clear, technically sound advice to internal stakeholders (Sales, Procurement) on transactional structuring to ensure tax efficiency and full compliance.
- Assist the senior finance team with implementing tax planning and risk mitigation strategies, focusing on optimizing legitimate tax benefits and minimizing potential liabilities.
Regulatory Knowledge and Reporting:
- Continuously track and interpret changes in the Indian tax legislation (Income Tax Act, CGST/SGST Acts) and subsequent circulars, notifications, and case laws, assessing their impact on the company's operations.
- Prepare and review accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual tax reports for senior management, summarizing tax exposures, compliance status, and effective tax rates.
- Collaborate with the finance team to ensure tax provisions and deferred tax calculations are correctly reflected in the general ledger during financial audits and year-end closing processes.
Preferred Skills:
- Certification such as CA (Chartered Accountant) or an equivalent professional finance/tax qualification is highly advantageous.
- Advanced practical experience with tax compliance software ( Taxmann, Gen CompLaw, or similar enterprise tax engines) and familiarity with major ERP systems (SAP FICO, Oracle EBS) specifically related to tax configurations.
- Deep technical understanding of the reconciliation process for Input Tax Credit (ITC) under GST and advanced knowledge of TDS/TCS provisions and their applicability.
- Proven experience in successfully managing large-scale scrutiny assessments or appeals.
- Strong analytical skills with proficiency in MS Excel for complex tax data manipulation and reconciliation
