
Role Overview
The Surveillance Manager will be responsible for monitoring trading activities, identifying suspicious patterns, ensuring compliance with exchange/regulatory guidelines, and supporting AML/PMLA processes. The role requires strong analytical ability, regulatory understanding, and experience in trade surveillance across capital markets.
Key Responsibilities (KRA)
- Monitor client trading activity to identify abnormal or suspicious trading patterns including spoofing, layering, circular trading, synchronized trades, pump & dump, trade reversals, and excessive order cancellations.
- Review, investigate and close all surveillance alerts within defined turnaround timelines.
- Conduct periodic client risk assessments including high-risk client monitoring, dormant-to-active account analysis and evaluating unusual trade behavior.
- Maintain updated risk categorization records for all retail clients as per regulatory guidelines.
- Handle regulatory and exchange queries from NSE, BSE, and SEBI and ensure accurate responses within prescribed timelines.
- Prepare and submit periodic regulatory reports and ensure complete and accurate documentation for audits and inspections.
- Support AML transaction monitoring activities in collaboration with compliance teams.
- Assist in identifying suspicious transactions and support STR/SAR filing processes as required under PMLA guidelines.
- Prepare investigation notes, MIS, dashboards, and reports for internal management review.
- Maintain comprehensive case documentation ensuring audit readiness and traceability.
- Participate in internal risk assessments, identify control gaps, and recommend improvements in surveillance and compliance processes.
- Contribute to process automation and enhancement initiatives to strengthen surveillance controls.
- Assist in drafting, reviewing, and updating SOPs, surveillance manuals, and internal policy documents.
- Ensure effective implementation of updated policies and regulatory changes across teams.
Required Skillsets:
- Strong understanding of trade surveillance concepts, pattern recognition, and capital market operations.
- Good knowledge of SEBI, NSE, and BSE regulatory guidelines and reporting requirements.
- Hands-on experience with surveillance systems, monitoring tools, and risk assessment frameworks.
- Strong analytical and investigative skills with the ability to interpret trading patterns and identify red flags.
- Familiarity with AML/PMLA regulations and transaction monitoring processes.
- Excellent documentation, reporting, and audit preparation capabilities.
- Strong communication skills for handling regulatory interactions and internal coordination.
- Ability to work under pressure, manage time-sensitive tasks and adhere to strict timelines.
- High attention to detail, integrity, and strong compliance mindset.
