Role Title: Sustainability Lead
Function: HR & CSR
Reports to Functionally: CHRO & head CSR
Location: Mumbai
Role Purpose:
The Sustainability Lead will be the dedicated professional at SBIFML, responsible for driving the organisations end-to-end Sustainability, ESG, and BRSR Core compliance agenda. The role anchors day-to-day BRSR Core data ownership, coordinates with internal KPI owners, and partners with the assurance, ESG Board Committee to embed sustainability across both investment and corporate operations.
Key Responsibilities:
BRSR Core Data Governance & Sustainability Reporting :
- Lead day-to-day BRSR Core data management across all nine ESG attributes (GHG emissions, energy, water, waste/e-waste, job creation B30, pay equity, business conduct, employee well-being, human rights) as mandated.
- Coordinate with Finance, Business Team, HR, Operations, Compliance & Legal to gather accurate baseline data and evidence for the assurance partner.
- Align CSR-related metrics (Principle 8, B30 reporting, beneficiaries, CSR spend) with the CSR Team, who will continue to execute programmes independently.
- Prepare the BRSR Core data package for independent assurance and support integration into SBIFML Annual Report.
ESG Governance & Committee Support:
- Provide reporting, dashboards, and follow-through actions for the Management Sustainability Steering Committee.
- Assist with documentation, reviews, and governance support for the Board Sustainability & CSR Committee.
Close Collaboration with Investment ESG Analyst:
The Sustainability Lead will work hand-in-hand with the Investment ESG Analyst on:
1. ESG integration across equity and debt research teams.
2. ESG scoring methodology, analytics, and coverage expansion.
3. Stewardship Code implementation, including ESG rationale voting support.
4. Tracking Pillar 1 KPIs (e.g., %AUM covered by ESG scoring, engagement outcomes, votes cast with ESG rationale).
Corporate Sustainability Execution:
- Lead corporate ESG measurement and reporting across GHG emissions, energy efficiency, water usage, waste & e-waste, digital adoption, diversity and inclusion, training, and well-being metrics.
- Work with the CSR team only for alignment of impact data, reporting inputs and disclosures relating to statutory CSR requirements as part of BRSR. CSR programme Strategy, execution remains with the CSR vertical.
Capability Building & Cross-Functional Awareness:
- Conduct ESG sensitisation sessions for Research, Investments, HR, Operations, and Finance teams.
- Align sustainability roadmap implementation with SBI Groups Sustainability & Net Zero commitments.
Qualifications:
- 10+ years in Sustainability in listed firms or ESG Advisory, Risk, Big 4 ESG practice.
- Strong understanding of BRSR Core, ESG frameworks, and financial sector regulatory requirements.
- Postgraduate/PhD Holder.
