Engineering Manager Consumer Applications

As we continue to expand our consumer offerings, we are looking for an experienced Engineering Manager to lead product engineering teams responsible for building secure, scalable, and delightful consumer applications.

Role Overview:

We are seeking a highly driven Engineering Manager who can combine strong technical depth with exceptional people leadership and product execution capabilities. The ideal candidate should have a solid understanding of mobile-first product development, experience working in fintech or digital financial services ecosystems, and the ability to lead cross-functional teams in delivering high-quality products at speed.

Key Responsibilities:

Engineering Leadership:

- Lead and manage one or more engineering teams responsible for consumer-facing products.

- Establish a culture of ownership, accountability, engineering excellence, and continuous improvement.

- Mentor, coach, and develop engineers and technical leads to maximize team effectiveness.

- Drive hiring, performance management, career development, and succession planning.

- Foster collaboration across engineering, product, design, and business functions.

Product Delivery & Execution:

- Partner closely with Product Managers to translate business objectives into executable engineering roadmaps.

- Drive end-to-end delivery of product initiatives from ideation through production rollout.

- Ensure predictable execution while balancing speed, quality, scalability, and customer experience.

- Remove execution bottlenecks and proactively manage delivery risks.

- Lead sprint planning, prioritization discussions, release planning, and engineering capacity management.

Technical Oversight:

- Provide technical direction across mobile, backend, frontend, and platform systems.

- Guide architecture and design decisions to ensure scalability, reliability, security, and maintainability.

- Review solution designs and ensure alignment with long-term technology strategy.

- Drive adoption of engineering best practices, coding standards, observability, testing, and automation.

- Collaborate with Technical Leads and Architects on platform modernization initiatives.

Stakeholder Management:

- Act as a key bridge between Engineering, Product, Business, Compliance, and Operations teams.

- Communicate engineering priorities, trade-offs, risks, and progress to senior leadership.

- Align technology investments with business goals and customer needs.

- Drive data-driven decision-making and outcome-focused execution.

Operational Excellence:

- Own engineering metrics related to quality, delivery, reliability, and team productivity.

- Ensure production stability and operational readiness of critical systems.

- Lead incident management and post-mortem reviews for major production issues.

- Drive continuous improvements in development processes and engineering effectiveness.

Required Qualifications:

Experience:

- 10+ years of software engineering experience with at least 3-5 years in an Engineering Manager/Architect or equivalent leadership role.

- Proven experience building and scaling consumer-facing digital products.

- Experience leading teams of 8-12 engineers across multiple disciplines.

- Prior experience working in fintech, payments, banking, lending, digital commerce, or regulated technology environments.

Technical Expertise:

Strong understanding of modern software engineering practices across:

Mobile Engineering:

- Android and/or iOS application ecosystems.

- Mobile architecture patterns and performance optimization.

- Mobile security, release management, and app lifecycle management.

- Understanding of user experience and mobile product delivery.

Backend Technologies:

- Strong familiarity with Java-based ecosystems.

- Spring Boot and Microservices architectures.

- API design and distributed systems principles.

- Event-driven architectures and messaging systems.

Frontend Technologies:

- Understanding of modern web application architectures.

- Experience working with frontend frameworks and consumer-facing web platforms.

Databases & Data Systems:

- Relational databases such as PostgreSQL and/or MySQL.

- NoSQL databases such as MongoDB and Redis.

- Data modeling, performance optimization, and scalability considerations.

Cloud & Platform Engineering:

- AWS and cloud-native architectures.

- CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.

- Docker, Kubernetes, observability, and monitoring platforms.

Leadership Competencies:

Preferred Qualifications:

- Experience building large-scale fintech or payments products serving millions of users.

- Exposure to digital wallets, payments, lending, banking, insurance, or financial services platforms.

- Experience leading mobile-first product organizations.

- Strong understanding of security, compliance, and regulatory requirements in financial services.

- Experience driving engineering transformation, platform modernization, or organizational scaling initiatives.

- MBA or advanced technical degree is a plus but not required.
