Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and review US Individual and Business Tax Returns, including:
i. Form 1040 (Individual Tax Returns)
ii. Form 1120-S (S Corporation Tax Returns)
iii. Form 1065 (Partnership Tax Returns)
- Analyse financial statements, trial balances, and general ledgers.
- Perform tax reconciliations and identify tax adjustments.
- Review bookkeeping records and ensure accuracy of financial data before tax preparation.
- Communicate with internal teams regarding missing information and tax-related queries.
- Research and resolve tax and accounting issues.
- Prepare workpapers and maintain documentation supporting tax return positions.
- Review tax returns prepared by junior staff and provide technical guidance.
- Ensure compliance with federal and state tax regulations.
- Meet project deadlines while maintaining high-quality standards.
Technical Requirements:
Strong understanding of:
i. Form 1040
ii. Form 1120-S
iii. Form 1065
iv. Schedule K-1 reporting
v. Basis calculations
vi. Book-to-tax adjustments
vii. Depreciation and fixed asset accounting
viii. State tax filings
Accounting Knowledge:
- Strong accounting fundamentals are mandatory.
Ability to analyze:
i. Balance Sheets
ii. Profit & Loss Statements
iii. General Ledgers
Software Requirements:
- Hands-on experience with:
i. ProSystem fx Tax
ii. QuickBooks Online and/or QuickBooks Desktop
iii. Microsoft Excel (Intermediate to Advanced)
Desired Skills:
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Good communication and documentation skills.
- Ability to manage multiple returns and deadlines during busy seasons.
- Experience reviewing tax returns and mentoring junior staff is preferred.
Experience Requirements:
- 3-5 years of experience in US Tax Preparation and Review.
- Experience working with CPA firms or outsourced US tax projects preferred.
- Prior experience using ProSystem fx Tax is highly preferred.
Note:
Foreign information reporting forms (FBAR, Forms 5471, 8865, 8938, etc.) are not part of this role.
Primary focus will be on domestic US Individual and Business Tax Returns along with related accounting review work.
