About the Role:
The TPM will own and scale core BNPL platform capabilities that power consumer checkout, instant credit decisioning, repayment journeys, and merchant integrations across web and app channels. The role requires strong technical depth, BNPL domain understanding, and the ability to drive complex programs across product, engineering, risk, and external partners
Responsibilities:
Product Ownership (BNPL Platform)
- Own the roadmap for BNPL core systems: checkout/offer APIs, Loan Origination System for BNPL, risk and decisioning services, installment and repayment services, and merchant/partner APIs.
- Prioritize initiatives that improve checkout conversion, approval rates, and on-time repayment while keeping operational and risk constraints in mind.
Technical Translation
- Translate BNPL business requirements (e.g., new tenures, dynamic offers, merchant-specific rules) into detailed PRDs, technical specs, and API contracts.
- Define clear system and data flows across merchant frontends, BNPL backend services, payment gateways, and external partners.
Engineering Collaboration
- Work closely with Engineering Managers and Architects to design microservices and event-driven flows for BNPL use cases such as application, approval, disbursement, and repayment.
- Drive build-vs-buy decisions for components like fraud/risk tools, bureau integrations, and payment orchestration, while managing technical debt and scalability.
API & Integration Strategy
- Lead technical integrations with merchants, payment gateways, lending partners, KYC providers, credit bureaus, and collections partners.
- Define integration standards for idempotency, error handling, retries, webhooks/callbacks, and monitoring to ensure high success rates at checkout and during repayments.
BNPL B2C Platform Focus
- Ensure platform performance and reliability for peak events (sales, campaigns) and multi-merchant traffic, focusing on latency, throughput, and resilience.
- Enable experiments such as A/B testing of BNPL offers, eligibility rules, and UI flows by abstracting capabilities into configurable platform components.
Data-Driven Decisions
- Use SQL and log analysis to understand funnel drop-offs (e.g., from checkout to approval), success rates of disbursements and repayments, and default patterns.
- Define and track key BNPL KPIs: approval rate, NPA/default rate, on-time repayment, repeat usage, and merchant-level performance.
Program Delivery & Governance
- Manage cross-functional initiatives involving Product, Engineering, Risk, Compliance, Operations, Collections, and external partners from discovery to rollout.
- Run steering reviews, risk/issue logs, and post-mortems for incidents impacting BNPL availability, success rates, or compliance.
Must Haves:
- Minimum 4+ years of total industry experience in software/technology roles.
- Demonstrated experience in shipping or operating comple backend or payments/fintech systems.
- Prior experience as a Software Developer/Engineer (Backend or Full Stack) with production systems, preferably in payments, lending, or transactional platforms.
- Ability to comfortably discuss service design, data models, failure modes, and trade-offs with engineering teams.
- Strong understanding of RESTful APIs, microservices, and event-driven architectures, commonly used in BNPL platforms.
- Solid knowledge of SQL and NoSQL databases, data modeling for transactional and ledger-like systems, and performance considerations.
- Hands-on familiarity with cloud infrastructure (AWS or equivalent), including services for compute, storage, queues/streams, and observability.
- Ability to break down end-to-end BNPL flows (from Pay with BNPL click to final repayment) into steps, state transitions, and edge cases.
- Strong debugging skills using logs, metrics, and data to identify root causes in multi-system integrations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in BNPL, consumer lending, credit cards, or payments in a B2C context.
- Familiarity with Loan Management Systems (LMS), LOS, bureau integrations, risk scorecards, and fraud tools is a strong advantage.
Education
- B.Tech/B.E. or Dual Degree from Tier-1 institutes (IITs, BITS Pilani, NITs, IIITs, DTU, or equivalent)
- Experience in a high-growth startup or similar environment with ambiguity, aggressive timelines, and frequent iterations.
- Bias towards ownership, speed, and pragmatic decision-making
