
Role Summary
The Assistant Manager - Capex will be responsible for managing and optimizing the procurement of capital goods, equipment, and project-related services.
This role ensures alignment with project budgets, compliance standards, and strategic sourcing practices.
The incumbent will collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders (Engineering, Finance, Quality, and Operations) to ensure timely, cost-effective, and compliant execution of capital purchase projects.
Key Responsibilities
Capital Procurement & Planning
- Develop and execute annual and project-specific Capex procurement plans aligned with approved budgets.
- Coordinate with project teams for equipment specifications, capacity requirements, and timelines.
- Prepare cost estimates, evaluate ROI, and support Capex approval processes with senior management.
Supplier Evaluation & Contract Management
- Conduct supplier due diligence, technical capability assessments, and compliance audits.
- Lead RFQ/RFP processes, bid evaluations, and techno-commercial negotiations.
- Draft, negotiate, and execute supplier contracts ensuring favorable terms on pricing, warranties, and delivery.
- Track contract performance and ensure compliance with contractual obligations.
Procurement Operations & Compliance
- Manage the full lifecycle of purchase orders, including creation, order tracking, invoicing, and payment follow-up.
- Ensure adherence to GxP, USFDA, EU-GMP, and internal SOPs during procurement processes.
- Maintain comprehensive procurement documentation for internal, statutory, and regulatory audits.
Vendor & Market Management
- Monitor vendor performance using KPIs (quality, cost, delivery timelines, service levels).
- Initiate vendor requalification or disengagement for non-compliance or performance issues.
- Conduct market intelligence studies to identify alternative suppliers, cost-saving opportunities, and emerging technologies.
- Build long-term relationships with strategic vendors for key equipment and services.
Process Improvement & Digital Transformation
- Drive adoption of e-procurement and digital tools for enhanced transparency and efficiency.
- Implement automation initiatives for Capex procurement to reduce lead times.
- Identify and implement best practices in procurement strategy, cost optimization, and supplier risk management.
Qualifications & Experience
Education: B.Tech/B.in Mechanical / Electrical Engineering, OR MBA in Supply Chain Management (preferred).
Experience:
- 6-11 years in procurement, Capex management, or supply chain in a pharmaceutical, chemical, or manufacturing industry.
- Proven experience in managing large-scale Capex projects, technical procurement, and supplier negotiations.
Skills:
- Strong negotiation, analytical, and vendor management skills.
- Excellent knowledge of procurement processes, ERP systems (SAP/Oracle), and digital procurement platforms.
- Understanding of pharma compliance standards (USFDA, EU GMP, cGMP) in procurement.
- Strong project management, cross-functional collaboration, and stakeholder communication abilities
