Senior Trader - Base Metals

Role Overview:

The successful candidate will be a proven performer in base metals trading, ideally from a top-tier trading house such as Trafigura, Glencore, IXM, or similar. You will leverage deep relationships with producers, smelters, refiners, and buyers globally while building profitable positions across both physical and derivatives markets.

Key Responsibilities:

- Execute and manage physical and paper trading in key base metals across Asia, Europe, and the Americas.

- Develop, manage, and expand counterparty relationships with miners, refiners, smelters, industrial users, and financial institutions.

- Source, structure, and negotiate deals that drive profitable, risk-adjusted P&L growth.

- Oversee full-cycle trading operations, including contracts, risk assessment, logistics, and financing.

- Monitor commodity flows, macroeconomic and geopolitical trends to anticipate price movements and trading opportunities.

- Optimize trading strategies using LME, CME, and other exchanges for hedging and risk management.

- Work hand-in-hand with operations, logistics, finance, and risk teams to ensure smooth trade execution.

- Expand market share through new business opportunities in both mature and emerging markets.

- Uphold highest standards of compliance and governance in global commodities trading.

- Manage the Base Metals desk as a profit center, ensuring sustained performance and growth.

Ideal Candidate Profile:

- 8+ years of proven experience in physical and derivatives base metals trading.

- Strong counterparties network with miners, refiners, smelters, and industrial buyers worldwide.

- Demonstrated track record of P&L ownership in base metals trading.

- Advanced knowledge of LME & CME pricing and hedging mechanisms.

- Experienced in structured deals, long-term contracts, and supply agreements.

- Strong commercial acumen, analytical ability, and deal-making skills.

- Strategic mindset with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, competitive environment.

- Mandarin proficiency (or another Asian market-relevant language) is an advantage.

Preferred Qualifications:

- Experience with physical trading, warehousing, and structured trade finance.

- Expertise in long-term supply contracts against prepayment structures.

- Network with financial institutions for hedging and structured finance solutions.
