Job Summary:
The Senior Resident in Microbiology provides diagnostic, teaching, and research support in the field of medical microbiology. The role involves supervision of laboratory activities, assisting in diagnosis of infectious diseases, infection control, and guiding junior residents and laboratory staff under the direction of faculty and the HOD.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Diagnostic and Laboratory Work
- Perform and supervise microbiological investigations including bacteriology, virology, mycology, parasitology, and molecular diagnostics.
- Ensure quality control and accuracy of test results.
- Interpret culture and sensitivity reports and assist clinicians in patient management.
- Participate in laboratory rounds and case discussions.
2. Infection Control
- Participate in hospital infection control programs.
- Monitor healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) and antimicrobial resistance trends.
- Assist in antimicrobial stewardship activities and infection surveillance.
3. Teaching and Training
- Teach and guide undergraduate and postgraduate medical and paramedical students.
- Supervise the work of Junior Residents, technologists, and interns.
- Participate in academic activities such as seminars, journal clubs, and case presentations.
4. Research
- Assist in departmental research projects and publications.
- Plan and execute small research studies under faculty guidance.
- Contribute to data collection, analysis, and report preparation.
5. Administrative Duties
- Maintain laboratory records, logs, and documentation as per NABL/NABH standard
