The Head of Yarn Purchasing will lead the end-to-end procurement lifecycle for yarn to support production goals. This role focuses on cost optimization, supplier relationship management, quality control, and timely delivery. The position ensures the sourcing is aligned with market trends, budgetary constraints, and design requirements.
Key Responsibilities
1. Strategic Sourcing and Procurement
Develop Sourcing Strategy: Create and implement long-term procurement strategies for various yarn types (cotton, polyester, linen, viscose).
Supplier Management: Identify, evaluate, and manage reliable domestic and international suppliers to ensure competitive pricing and quality.
Contract Negotiation: Negotiate high-value contracts and pricing to ensure optimal cost savings and favorable credit terms.
Inventory Control: Manage inventory levels to prevent stockouts while optimizing working capital, adhering to just-in-time principles.
2. Market Intelligence and Quality Assurance
Market Analysis: Monitor raw material price trends (e.g., cotton futures), supply chain risks, and market volatility to anticipate changes.
Quality Compliance: Ensure all purchased yarn meets the quality standards required for home textile products.
Sustainability: Source eco-friendly or certified yarns (e.g., BCI cotton, GOTS organic) as required by client demand.
3. Cross-Functional Coordination
Production Alignment: Collaborate with production, design, and product development teams to understand upcoming collection requirements and yarn specifications.
Budgeting: Drive budget planning and forecasting for raw material spending.
4. Team Leadership
Manage Purchasing Team: Lead and mentor a team of buyers and purchasing executives.
Critical Success Factors
Education and Experience
Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Textile Technology, Textile Engineering, and Masters in Management Studies ( preferably Operations or Material Management)
Experience: 8-15+ years in textile procurement, with a strong background in yarn sourcing for home furnishings, woven fabrics, or garment manufacturing.
Essential Skills and Competencies:
Industry Knowledge: Deep understanding of cotton, synthetic, and blended yarns used in home textiles.
Technical Knowledge: Understanding of spinning processes, yarn counts, and quality parameters (yarn dyeing, weaving suitability).
Skills: Exceptional negotiation skills, analytical capabilities, vendor management, and proficiency in ERP systems (like SAP).
