JOB PURPOSE

- The Senior Manager, Content Operations is responsible for leading the Production Technology Operations team, with a core focus on team management, workflow optimisation, process improvement.

- The Senior Manager will be expected to establish data-driven insights and reporting frameworks that guide workflow enhancements, resource allocation, and the adoption of emerging production technologies.


- This role collaborates closely with the Production Operations (ProdOps) and Publishing Process Management (PPM) teams to build and execute the content strategy framework aligned with evolving product needs.


- Additionally, the role will oversees any projects that are being managed within the Production Technology team. The position will create and monitor OKRs for the teams to ensure that processes and technologies are efficient, future-ready, and deliver maximum value.


KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES


- Partner with Production Operations (ProdOps) and Publishing Process Management (PPM) teams to design and implement a content delivery framework that supports evolving product requirements.


- Lead and develop the Production Technology team, fostering a culture of excellence, innovation, and continuous improvement.


- Own Objectives and Key Results (OKRs) for the team, ensuring alignment with strategic goals, operational priorities, and measurable outcomes.


- Establish and maintain data-driven reporting frameworks to track team and operational performance, guide decision-making, and identify opportunities for workflow and technology enhancements.


- Optimize workflows and processes, identifying opportunities for training, process improvements, and technology adoption to enhance operational efficiency and scalability.


- Implement and oversee projects, maintaining transparent communication with stakeholders and ensuring successful delivery of operational initiatives.


- Manage and communicate around special projects such as transitions, major archive updates, and ongoing process improvements, ensuring stakeholder satisfaction and minimal disruption.


- Collaborate with external partners and service providers to support technology implementation and operational improvements, including services such as Crossref, EBSCO, OCLC, Clarivate, PubMed, and Scopus.


- Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams including Product, Technology, and Operations to ensure alignment and successful delivery of strategic initiatives.


- Influence and engage stakeholders across teams and leadership to drive adoption of process improvements, emerging technologies, and operational best practices.


- Ensure operational compliance with internal policies, industry standards, and metadata/content regulations, proactively identifying and mitigating risks.


SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE


- Expert in metadata standards (JATS XML, DOIs, MARC 21, RDA, KBART II, Open Discovery Initiative) and content management systems, databases, and publishing platforms.


- Proven experience in working with operational and production data, establishing reporting frameworks and dashboards to derive actionable insights, optimize workflows, and support data-driven decision-making.


- Strong track record in process improvement, workflow optimisation, and adoption of emerging production technologies in content operations or publishing environments.


- Demonstrated ability to lead and develop high-performing teams, fostering collaboration across cross-functional stakeholders.


- Experience in setting, monitoring, and driving OKRs or performance metrics to ensure operational efficiency, scalability, and alignment with business objectives.


- Proven project management expertise, including planning, executing, and delivering complex technology or operational initiatives.


- Exceptional strategic thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills, able to convey complex technical and operational concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.


- Deep understanding of the academic, library, and publishing markets, using insights to inform operational and content strategies.


- Skilled at influencing stakeholders, building consensus, and driving change in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.


- Resilient, adaptable, and innovative, consistently delivering solutions to complex operational, workflow, and technology challenges.
