We're hiring a Senior Data Scientist: Founding Team, India Product Development Center

Why This Role Matters:

Our client, a US-headquartered, global B2B manufacturing marketplace platform, is opening its first Product Development Center in India, and this is one of the founding hires. You will define how data science gets done here from day one, not join an existing team and follow its playbook.

What makes this role different:

- This is an experimentation-first role. Roughly 40% of the job is designing, running, and interpreting experiments, not building dashboards or reporting metrics. If you haven't owned an A/B test end-to-end (design, sample size, read-out, causal inference), this isn't the right fit.

- Not a BI or MLOps role. We're not looking for a Tableau/visualization specialist or an ML infrastructure engineer. We need someone who has been inside an organization that runs real experiments and has helped shape them from inception to production.

- E-commerce or B2B marketplace background preferred. Experience at companies like Wayfair, Amazon, or similar scaled marketplaces is a strong signal. Indian companies often underinvest in experimentation rigor, so this specific muscle matters.

- Senior IC role, not a people-manager track. At this level in India, many strong candidates default to management. This role stays hands-on, deep in the data, the experiment design, and the analysis.

- You'll work directly with international, cross-functional stakeholders. This is a fully-owned global platform build, not an India-only augmentation team.

About the Role:

We're looking for a results-oriented Senior Data Scientist to lead data science across key product and business problems, using analytics, experimentation, and statistical methods to drive better decisions and measurable outcomes. As a founding Data Scientist for our client's India PDT team, you'll also help establish strong data practices, build cross-region trust, and shape a culture of innovation and execution as the organization scales.

How You'll Contribute:

AI-Driven Analytics:

- Champion the adoption of AI across the SDLC, and find and scale ways to accelerate data analytics across the organization.

Analytics & Business Insights:

- Define metrics that measure product and business performance.

- Analyze data to identify opportunities, issues, and key business drivers.

- Turn insights into actionable recommendations and estimate business impact.

- Build dashboards and visualizations to track performance and trends.

Experimentation & Statistical Inference:

- Design experiments to measure the impact of product and business changes.

- Apply statistical and causal inference methods to draw reliable conclusions from data.

Data, Tools & Technical Leadership:

- Prepare and analyze large datasets using cloud platforms such as AWS and Snowflake.

- Use SQL, Python, Jupyter Notebooks, Looker, and related tools to generate insights.

- Partner with Product, Engineering, and business teams to shape strategy and priorities.

- Clearly communicate insights, model results, and recommendations to stakeholders.

Found and Scale Our Client's India Product Development Center:

- Serve as a founding Data Scientist, establishing strong data science practices and helping build a high-performing team.

What You'll Bring:

- 5+ years of progressive data scientist experience, with real ownership of experimentation, not just metrics and reporting.

- Bachelor's degree required; degree in applied math, computer science, natural sciences, or engineering preferred.

- M.S. or Ph.D. in a related field highly desired.

- 5+ years of experience with machine learning, statistical modeling, and optimization techniques.

- Fluent in Python (pandas, numpy, SciPy, and scikit-learn preferred).

- Proficient in linear algebra and statistics.

- Familiar with scientific software principles, e.g. versioning systems, reproducibility.

- Prior experience at an e-commerce company or B2B marketplace strongly preferred.

- Experience working with international/US-based stakeholders is a plus.

- Manufacturing industry experience is a bonus, not a requirement.
