Hospital Profile:
A well-established 200+ bedded multi-specialty hospital with 247 Emergency, ICU/CCU, advanced diagnostics, OT complex, NABH-aligned processes, and a growing reputation for ethical, patient-centric care. The hospital aims to build a strong, sustainable cardiology department serving both urban and semi-urban populations.
Role:
To lead and grow the Cardiology Department by delivering high-quality clinical care, strengthening OPD and IPD volumes, optimizing ICU utilization, mentoring junior clinicians, and contributing to the hospitals long-term clinical and revenue growthwhile maintaining the highest ethical standards.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Clinical Care & Patient Management:
- The consultant will be responsible for running an independent Cardiology OPD and managing follow-up patients on a regular basis. The role involves diagnosing and treating a wide range of cardiac conditions including coronary artery disease (STEMI, NSTEMI and unstable angina), acute and chronic heart failure, arrhythmias such as atrial fibrillation, SVT, VT and heart blocks, hypertension and diabetic heart disease, as well as valvular heart disorders.
- The cardiologist will lead the clinical management of patients in the Cardiac ICU / CCU, provide cardiac fitness and clearance for surgical and high-risk cases, and handle cardiac emergencies, including night-duty calls, on a rotational basis.
2. ICU & Critical Care Leadership:
- The consultant will provide clinical leadership for ICU and CCU services by conducting daily rounds in coordination with intensivists and nursing teams. The role involves guiding the appropriate use of ventilators, inotropes, thrombolytic therapy, and advanced cardiac life-support measures while ensuring timely clinical decision-making in critical cases.
- The cardiologist will be responsible for establishing, implementing, and adhering to standardized cardiac care protocols and SOPs, with a strong focus on patient safety, clinical governance, and improving overall treatment outcomes.
3. Diagnostic & Non-Invasive Procedures:
- The consultant will independently perform and interpret key non-invasive cardiac investigations including ECG, 2D echocardiography, treadmill stress testing (TMT), and Holter monitoring.
- The role also involves performing essential bedside procedures such as temporary pacemaker insertion, cardioversion, and central line placement when clinically required.
4. Interventional Responsibilities:
- The cardiologist will perform or supervise interventional procedures including coronary angiography and primary or elective PCI, based on the hospitals infrastructure.
- The role includes supporting cath lab development, increasing procedural volumes responsibly, and ensuring ethical case selection, patient education, and informed consent.
5. Department Development & Growth:
- The consultant will play a key role in building and expanding cardiology OPD services and strengthening referral networks.
- This includes close collaboration with the emergency department, internal medicine, and allied specialties such as nephrology, neurology, surgery, and orthopedics. Participation in health camps, CMEs, and outreach programs is expected to improve local access to cardiac care and reduce unnecessary referrals to metro hospitals.
6. Team Leadership & Training:
- The role involves mentoring junior doctors, medical officers, and residents, as well as supporting the clinical training of ICU and cardiac nursing teams. The consultant is expected to foster a collaborative, respectful, and patient-centric work environment within the department.
7. Quality, Ethics & Compliance:
- The consultant will ensure adherence to NABH and NMC guidelines, hospital policies, and established clinical protocols.
- The role requires a strong commitment to ethical medical practice, transparent patient counselling, rational use of investigations, and active participation in clinical audits and quality improvement initiatives.
Qualifications & Experience:
Mandatory:
- MBBS + MD (General Medicine)
- DM Cardiology / DNB Cardiology (NMC recognized)
- Valid NMC registration
- 8-15 years post-DM experience preferred
Desirable:
- Experience in Tier-1 / Tier-2 city hospitals
- Exposure to both OPD-driven and ICU-driven cardiology practice
- Interventional cardiology exposure
