Position Title: Sector Head / Practice Head Investment Banking

(Senior Leadership Role)

Role Overview

The Sector Head Investment Banking is a senior leadership role responsible for setting strategic direction, driving business growth, and leading execution of capital advisory and investment banking activities across impact-oriented and growth sectors.

This role requires a seasoned investment banking professional with a strong track record in deal origination, capital raising, M&A, and structured finance, particularly within emerging markets. The incumbent will own the sector/practice P&L, manage senior client and investor relationships, build high-performing teams, and expand market presence across India, Africa, and other emerging markets.

In addition to transaction leadership, the role will contribute to thought leadership, market positioning, and innovation in sustainable finance, ESG investing, and alternative capital structures.

Key Responsibilities

1. Sector Leadership & Strategic Direction

- Define and execute the long-term vision and growth strategy for assigned sector(s).

- Drive revenue growth, profitability, and market expansion across geographies and investor segments.

- Establish the firm as a preferred advisor for investors and enterprises in emerging and impact-driven markets.

- Collaborate with senior leadership and other practice heads to deliver integrated, cross-sector solutions.

- Represent the organization as a sector thought leader at industry forums and investor platforms.

2. Business Development, Origination & P&L Ownership

- Lead deal origination across equity, debt, M&A, and structured finance transactions.

- Build and deepen relationships with C-suite leaders, promoters, PE/VC funds, DFIs, institutional investors, family offices, and strategic partners.

- Lead complex fundraising and capital advisory mandates.

- Strengthen investor networks and access to diversified capital pools.

- Drive innovation in financial instruments, blended finance, and ESG-aligned structures.

- Own P&L planning, forecasting, and performance management for the sector.

3. Transaction Execution & Deal Leadership

- Oversee end-to-end transaction execution including structuring, valuation, due diligence, negotiations, and closures.

- Lead high-value negotiations ensuring alignment between client objectives and investor expectations.

- Apply advanced financial modelling and data-driven insights to optimize outcomes.

- Work closely with legal, financial, and sector experts to manage risks and ensure execution excellence.

4. Team Building & Talent Development

- Build, lead, and mentor a high-performing investment banking team.

- Define capability frameworks, performance standards, and leadership benchmarks.

- Coach and develop future leaders while fostering a culture of entrepreneurship, collaboration, and accountability.

- Implement performance management, incentive structures, and development programs to enhance retention and engagement.

5. Thought Leadership & Market Positioning

- Drive thought leadership initiatives through market insights, whitepapers, and presentations.

- Represent the organization at industry conferences, investor summits, and sector forums.

- Track global trends in capital markets, ESG, impact investing, and emerging sectors.

- Encourage innovation and new approaches to complex financing challenges.

6. Organizational Contribution

- Contribute to firm-wide strategic initiatives, operational excellence, and institutional capability building.

- Support brand visibility through industry engagement and flagship events.

- Act as a role model for leadership values and organizational culture.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

- Revenue growth and P&L performance

- Successful closure of equity, debt, M&A, and structured finance transactions

- Expansion of investor and strategic partner relationships

- Enhanced market credibility and thought leadership presence

- Strong talent development, retention, and team performance

Required Skills & Qualifications

- 10+ years of experience in investment banking, M&A advisory, PE/VC, or structured finance

- Strong expertise in capital raising, deal structuring, valuation, and due diligence

- Established relationships with institutional investors, DFIs, impact funds, family offices, and strategic investors

- Proven track record of closing large, complex transactions

- Experience managing P&L and business units or practice areas

- Exceptional leadership, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills

- MBA / CA / CFA or equivalent qualification from a reputed institution
