SAP Lead - Data Migration

Role Overview:

The Data Migration Lead is responsible for planning, executing, and managing the complete data migration lifecycle across enterprise transformation programs, ensuring accurate, secure, and high-quality data movement from legacy systems to target SAP or cloud-based platforms. This role combines strong technical expertise, project leadership, and cross-functional coordination to deliver successful migrations within complex enterprise environments.

Key Responsibilities:

- Lead and manage the full data migration lifecycle including extraction, transformation, loading (ETL), validation, and reconciliation across all project phases.

- Define and implement the overall data migration strategy, roadmap, and detailed execution plan aligned with business and system integration goals.

- Collaborate with functional leads across FICO, MM, SD, HCM, and other modules to identify master and transactional data objects, mapping logic, and transformation rules.

- Oversee data profiling, cleansing, and enrichment activities to ensure accuracy, consistency, and completeness of migrated data.

- Design and maintain functional mapping documents, data migration templates, and technical specifications for data extraction and load processes.

- Utilize tools such as SAP Data Services (BODS), LTMC, LSMW, and Migration Cockpit for data load execution and monitoring.

- Manage mock conversions, data load rehearsals, and validation cycles to ensure readiness and alignment with project cutover timelines.

- Implement robust data reconciliation frameworks, define sign-off procedures, and coordinate business validation during migration testing.

- Ensure strict adherence to data governance, audit, and security standards throughout all migration activities.

- Lead and mentor a team of data migration consultants, ensuring high-quality deliverables and timely execution of assigned work streams.

- Collaborate closely with ABAP, PI/PO, and integration teams to automate migration processes and enable seamless data transfer between systems.

- Provide regular progress updates, issue logs, and risk mitigation plans to project management and executive stakeholders.

Required Skills and Experience:

- Minimum 10 years of experience in data migration within large-scale SAP or enterprise transformation projects.

- Proven expertise in ETL processes, data profiling, validation, and reconciliation methodologies.

- Strong hands-on experience with SAP Data Services (BODS), LTMC, LSMW, and Migration Cockpit.

- Deep understanding of master data and transactional data structures across SAP modules (FICO, MM, SD, HCM).

- Experience defining and executing data migration strategies for greenfield, brownfield, or hybrid SAP S/4HANA implementations.

- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills for complex data scenarios.

- Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and leadership skills to manage both technical teams and business users.

- Working knowledge of SQL, data modeling, and performance optimization techniques.

- Experience coordinating with offshore and onshore teams in a global delivery environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

- SAP Certified Application Associate in Data Migration or SAP Data Services.

- Experience with S/4HANA data models and migration best practices.

- Exposure to data governance tools such as SAP MDG.

- Experience in automation of migration processes through custom tools or scripts.
