Role Overview

Sanvira Industries is seeking an experienced shipping professional to support and optimize the company's bulk freight requirements. The role is commercial in nature and is focused on reducing logistics and ocean freight cost through better chartering decisions, stronger market access, and disciplined post-fixture execution.

The candidate will report to the Director - Commercial and will work closely with internal commercial, procurement, finance, and operations teams. The role requires regular interaction with shipbrokers, vessel owners, operators, port-related stakeholders, and logistics counterparties.

This position is suited to a professional who understands dry-bulk shipping markets, can evaluate freight options creatively, and can manage execution from fixture through voyage completion.

Key Responsibilities

1. Freight Strategy & Chartering

- Support development and execution of freight strategy for bulk cargo movements across relevant trade lanes

- Engage with shipbrokers, vessel owners, and operators to source competitive freight options

- Evaluate and recommend optimal chartering structures, including spot voyage fixtures, time-charter opportunities etc.

- Prepare voyage estimates and compare alternatives based on freight economics, route efficiency, vessel suitability, and overall delivered cost

- Monitor vessel availability, positioning, bunker trends, and freight market movements to improve timing and fixture outcomes

- Support in negotiating commercial terms of charter parties

2. Market Intelligence & Trade Flow Analysis

- Track dry-bulk freight markets, vessel classes, and trade-flow developments relevant to the company's cargo movements

- Maintain a view on benchmark freight trends and route economics

- Identify creative shipping solutions to reduce cost, improve flexibility, or enhance cargo coverage

- Build and maintain market intelligence on owners, brokers, operators, vessel quality, and counterparty reliability

3. Post-Fixture Operations & Documentation

- Manage post-fixture execution after vessel nomination/fixing

- Ensure charter-party terms are properly captured, circulated, and operationalized internally

- Coordinate documentation and communication relating to shipment schedules, notices, cargo readiness, port nominations, and voyage instructions

- Track vessel progress, loading/discharge performance, and compliance with fixture terms

- Review laytime performance, demurrage/despatch exposure, and supporting statements of facts

- Coordinate with finance and counterparties on freight invoices, demurrage claims, and settlement follow-up

4. Internal Coordination

- Work closely with the Director - Commercial and relevant internal stakeholders across procurement, sales, plant operations, logistics, and finance

- Support alignment between cargo readiness, shipping schedules, and contractual commitments

- Escalate commercial or operational risks in a timely manner and propose solutions

Candidate Profile

Education:

- Bachelor's degree required

- MBA, PG Diploma in Shipping/Logistics, Maritime Studies, or related qualification preferred

Experience:

- 5-8 years of relevant experience in dry-bulk shipping, chartering, vessel operations, or commercial freight roles

- Prior experience in handling bulk cargoes is essential

- Experience in charter-party negotiation, owner/broker interaction, and post-fixture operations is strongly preferred

Core Competencies:

- Strong understanding of dry-bulk chartering and shipping economics

- Familiarity with voyage charter and time-charter concepts

- Good grasp of charter-party terms, laytime, demurrage/despatch, and shipping documentation

- Ability to analyze trade flows and identify cost-saving freight solutions

- Commercial mindset with strong negotiation capability

- Strong coordination, follow-through, and problem-solving ability

Technical Skills:

- Proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, and Word

- Ability to prepare freight comparisons, voyage calculations, and management updates

- Familiarity with shipping documentation and internal reporting systems
