Job Description

We are looking for an experienced Safety Head to independently lead and manage the complete Environment, Health & Safety function across large-scale construction projects in Tamil Nadu.

The ideal candidate should have extensive India-based construction safety experience, with strong exposure to High-Rise Buildings, Factory Buildings, Institutional Buildings, Commercial Buildings and other major Civil Construction Projects.

The role requires hands-on experience in managing safety operations across large construction sites involving multiple contractors, subcontractors and execution teams.

Key Responsibilities

- Lead and manage the complete safety function for assigned construction projects.

- Develop, implement and monitor project-specific safety plans, procedures and systems.

- Conduct HIRA, Risk Assessments and Job Safety Analysis (JSA) for construction activities.

- Implement and monitor Permit to Work (PTW) systems across project sites.

- Ensure safe practices for:

- Working at Height

- Scaffolding Operations

- Lifting & Rigging Operations

- Electrical Works

- Excavation Activities

- Heavy Equipment Operations

- Civil and Structural Construction Activities

- Conduct regular Safety Audits, Site Inspections and Compliance Reviews.

- Organise Toolbox Talks, induction programmes and periodic safety training for employees and contractors.

- Investigate accidents, incidents and near-misses and implement corrective and preventive actions.

- Ensure emergency preparedness and conduct emergency response drills.

- Monitor contractor and subcontractor compliance with project safety requirements.

- Coordinate with project management, execution teams, consultants and contractors on all safety matters.

- Maintain statutory safety documentation, registers and project safety records.

- Ensure compliance with applicable construction safety regulations and statutory requirements.

- Drive a strong safety culture across the project and proactively identify potential hazards.

Required Experience & Skills

- Minimum 15 years of overall experience in Construction Safety Management.

- Strong experience in High-Rise / Factory / Institutional / Commercial Building Projects.

- India-based construction experience is mandatory.

- Experience handling large construction sites and multiple contractors is preferred.

- Strong knowledge of HIRA, JSA, PTW, Risk Assessment and Construction Safety Systems.

- Practical knowledge of scaffolding, work-at-height, lifting, excavation and electrical safety.

- Experience conducting Safety Audits, Inspections, Toolbox Talks and Safety Training.

- Strong Accident / Incident Investigation capabilities.

- Ability to independently manage the complete project safety department.

- Strong leadership, communication, coordination and decision-making skills.

- Adequate knowledge of Tamil is preferred for effective site-level communication.

Education

Degree / Diploma in Engineering with Industrial Safety qualification preferred.

Additional Requirements

- Candidate should be willing to work at project locations anywhere in Tamil Nadu.

- Candidate should be willing to stay at the project location based on project requirements.

- Complete ownership of the Safety function is expected.
