Head - Biomass Fuel Management (Waste To Energy)
Description:
Role: Head - Biomass Fuel Management
Reporting to: COO - Biomass Business
Location: Delhi HO (Extensive Travel to Punjab-Haryana & Rajasthan locations), additional travel may be involved for business expansion in future.
Role & responsibilities:
As the Head of Biomass Fuel Management, you will be the strategic architect behind the fuel security of our 12-plant portfolio across North India. In a region where paddy straw management is both a national priority and a logistical challenge, you will lead the charge in transforming agricultural residue into sustainable baseload power.
You will own the end-to-end ecosystem, from field-level sourcing and complex supply chain logistics to multi-fuel warehousing and fire-safe operations. This is a role for a leader who thrives at the intersection of rural grassroots engagement and corporate strategic excellence.
1. Strategic Sourcing & Fuel Security:
- Design & Execute: Formulate a robust Fuel Policy that ensures 365-day plant availability across diverse clusters.
- Diversification: While Paddy Straw is our core, you will optimize the fuel mix by integrating Mustard husk, Juliflora, Fennel (Sonph), Cumin (Jeera) stalks, and other regional biomass.
- Cost Leadership: Drive procurement strategies that hedge against seasonal price volatility and competitive sourcing pressures.
2. Supply Chain & Logistics Excellence:
- Infrastructure Management: Oversee the logistics of moving millions of tonnes of biomass from farm-gate to plant-gate.
- Warehousing & Inventory: Manage large-scale decentralized and centralized storage yards with a focus on moisture control and caloric value retention.
- Technology Integration: Implement IoT and GPS-based tracking for real-time visibility of the fuel supply chain.
3. Operational Safety & Quality Control:
- Zero-Fire Mandate: Implement world-class fire prevention and suppression protocols across all storage sites (critical for Paddy Straw operations).
- Calorific Optimization: Establish rigorous quality testing labs at each site to monitor GCV (Gross Calorific Value), ash content, and moisture levels to maximize boiler efficiency.
4. Stakeholder & Ecosystem Building:
- Community Leadership: Build a network of thousands of farmers and aggregators, positioning the company as a "Partner of Choice."
- Government Liaison: Represent the organization at state and central levels regarding biomass policies, subsidies, and environmental compliance.
Preferred candidate profile:
- Industry Veteran: 20+ years of experience, with at least 5 years heading the functional vertical at a group level in a major Biomass Power or Bio-CNG company.
- Domain Mastery: Deep understanding of the North Indian agricultural landscape (Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan) and the specific logistics of Paddy Straw.
- Crisis Manager: Proven track record of managing supply chain disruptions and fire hazards in high-volume biomass storage.
Education:
- Technical Base: B.Sc./B.Tech in Agriculture Science or Engineering.
- Management Edge: Post-Graduate degree in Supply Chain Management or Operations from a premier institute.
Leadership Competencies:
- Strategic Vision: Ability to forecast fuel trends 2-3 years in advance.
- People Leader: Experience in managing large, geographically dispersed teams and fostering a culture of safety and integrity.
Why Join Us?:
- Impact: Be at the forefront of solving Indias stubble-burning crisis while contributing to national energy security.
- Scale: Manage one of the largest biomass footprints in the country across 12 strategic locations.
- Autonomy: A high-visibility role reporting to the Business Head/Promoter Group with the mandate to build the function from the ground up.
The Biomass Value Chain: To succeed in this role, the candidate must master the complexities of the seasonal harvest cycle.
