Job Title: EV Vendor Development (Mechanical Proprietary)

Location: Chennai

Function: EV Technical

Reports To: Lead EV Technical

Experience: 5 to 10 Years

Qualification: B.Tech / B.E. in Mechanical / Production / Automobile Engineering

We are seeking a skilled EV Vendor Development Specialist (Mechanical Proprietary) to lead vendor development activities for mechanical components of electric vehicles. The role focuses on ensuring an adequate supply of parts for new and existing products, including design changes, capacity enhancements, and replacements. The incumbent will oversee vendor management, vendor payments, and supplier performance evaluation while collaborating closely with cross-functional teams.

Key Responsibilities:

- Lead the vendor development team and monitor vendor performance, payments, and compliance.

- Collaborate with engineering, quality, and cost management teams to understand product requirements and part specifications.

- Identify potential suppliers and send RFQs based on bill of materials and part designs.

- Conduct Design for Manufacturing (DFM) discussions with suppliers to assess their capabilities.

- Provide technical guidance and engineering feedback to suppliers to ensure component reliability, cost efficiency, and supply chain effectiveness.

- Supervise supplier quality engineers and conduct component inspection audits, including receipt part inspections for proprietary mechanical parts.

- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to reduce rejection rates of incoming parts and implement continuous improvements.

- Review order status and ensure adherence to Direct on Line (DOL) targets and business plan requirements per vehicle.

- Calculate target costing in coordination with the Cost Management team and ensure suppliers meet target bands.

- Evaluate supplier performance and propose suitable vendors in collaboration with the Quality Assurance team.

- Resolve quality issues, monitor corrective actions, and ensure adherence to quality assurance guidelines.

- Ensure completion of the Product Part Approval Process (PPAP) with engineering and quality teams.

- Facilitate smooth handover to the procurement team for sourcing material for production runs.

Required Skills & Experience:

- 5 to 10 years of hands-on experience in vendor development for mechanical proprietary parts.

- Strong understanding of EV parts, including:

- Brake systems

- Suspension systems (Front & Rear)

- Handlebar & Switch Cubes

- Tyres

- Lock sets

- Mirrors

- Alloy Rims

- Experience with sourcing, costing, and ZBC activities for mechanical components.

- Knowledge of supplier base for proprietary mechanical parts.

- Hands-on experience with receipt part inspection and EV parts inspection.

- Proficient in GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing).

- Knowledge of New Product Establishment (NPE) processes.

- Strong skills in problem-solving, statistical analysis, and quality management systems.

- Mandatory experience in SAP and PLM systems.

- Familiarity with powertrain and e-mobility solutions is highly preferred.
