Role Overview & Ownership Areas:
The Risk & Credit Manager will be responsible for setting up an independent risk management framework for credit and risk assessment of large-scale renewable energy and green-finance transactions, with primary focus on solar power projects and related infrastructure. The role will also establish and strengthen the organisation's risk framework for renewable-energy and green-finance lending, ensuring sustainable growth while maintaining portfolio quality and regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibility Areas:
- Build and continuously enhance credit policy, underwriting framework, risk appetite and product/program guidelines for the green-energy financing.
- Define eligibility criteria, exposure limits, leverage tenor, pricing, security covenants and sponsor contribution norms.
- Develop appropriate risk rating/segmentation, EWS and portfolio-risk frameworks.
- Structure security package, escrow, DSRA, guarantees, sponsor support cash flow controls, covenants and other credit protections.
- Independently evaluate large proposals for solar, renewable-energy and green-finance.
- Assess sponsor strength, project feasibility, technology, EPC/O&M arrangement, project cost, financing structure, PPA/offtake arrangement, counterparty and ESG/environmental risks.
- Evaluate project cash flows & DSCR, debt sizing, leverage, IRR, NPV repayment capacity and overall project viability and use-of-proceeds monitoring.
- Identify key project, sponsor, execution, technology, off-taker and structural risks and recommend appropriate mitigants.
- Conduct sensitivity/stress testing for generation/PLF, tariff, cost overruns, COD delay, interest rates, receivables, PPA/off taker stress and refinancing risk.
- Monitor portfolio concentration across sponsors, technologies, geographies and off takers.
- Establish EWS and risk dashboards and identify emerging stress proactively.
- Establish monitoring framework covering construction progress, financial closure, equity infusion, project cost, COD, generation, receivables, DSCR and covenant compliance.
- Drive timely escalation and corrective action for stressed or underperforming projects.
- Work closely with Business, Technical, Legal, Treasury, Finance, Compliance and ESG teams.
- Present credit proposals and portfolio risk matters to senior management/ credit committees.
Qualifications & Experience:
- MBA / PGDM - Finance, CA, CFA, FRM or equivalent.
- 10 - 15+ years of relevant experience in large-ticket project appraisal, underwriting and transaction structuring for project finance/ Infrastructure finance/Renewable energy/ Green finance.
- Strong exposure to Solar/Renewable energy financing, preferably utility scale solar, C&I, Open Access, Captive/Group captive.
- Strong financial modelling and project cash-flow assessment capabilities.
- In-depth understanding of PPA/offtake risk, EPC/O&M risk, project execution and operational risks.
- Strong understanding of stress testing, downside analysis and risk mitigation.
- Prior experience in solar, wind, renewable-energy, infrastructure or power-sector financing would be preferred.
