Role Overview:
To lead and manage pan-India rice procurement, build a strong sourcing ecosystem, ensure cost-effective, high-quality, and continuous supply, leveraging market insights and technology.
Key Responsibilities:
- Strategy & Leadership: Develop and execute national rice/wheat buying strategies and lead a procurement team.
- Sourcing & Vendor Management: Identify, onboard, and manage relationships with farmers, millers, traders, and aggregators; build long-term contracts (TOTs, JBPs).
- Market Expertise: Deeply understand rice markets (mandis, varieties, quality parameters, regional clusters), forecast trends, and manage supply risks.
- Negotiation & Costing: Negotiate pricing, terms, and volumes; drive cost savings through origin efficiency and procurement optimization.
- Quality & Compliance: Ensure procured rice meets strict quality standards, manage quality control, and maintain food safety compliance.
- Cross-functional Collaboration: Work with supply chain, quality, demand planning, and sales teams to align procurement with business needs.
- Data & Reporting: Use data to optimize decisions, track KPIs (cost, quality, inventory turns), and report on key metrics.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Experience: 8-12+ years in rice/staple procurement, sourcing, or category management.
- Market Knowledge: Proven expertise in rice agri-markets, mandi dynamics, quality specs, and procurement tech.
- Commercial Acumen: Strong negotiation, vendor management, contract handling, and P&L management skills.
- Leadership: Ability to lead teams and manage large-scale operations.
- Technical: Proficiency with ERP systems and data analysis tools.
- Soft Skills: Excellent communication, interpersonal skills, and ability to travel.
