
Role Purpose
The SME - Electrical Engineering will provide strategic and technical leadership for electrical engineering operations across multiple pharmaceutical formulation sites. The role is accountable for ensuring safe, compliant, energy-efficient, and reliable electrical systems aligned with GMP, regulatory, and sustainability standards.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic & Operational Leadership
- Lead and govern end-to-end electrical engineering operations across multiple manufacturing sites.
- Act as the Subject Matter Expert for all HT/LT systems, substations, UPS, DG sets, power distribution, and critical utilities.
- Define and implement electrical engineering strategies aligned with business, compliance, and sustainability objectives.
Compliance & Regulatory Excellence
- Ensure full compliance with GMP/cGMP requirements and regulatory expectations including USFDA and relevant global standards.
- Lead electrical readiness for regulatory inspections, audits, and certifications.
- Drive adherence to ISO 50001 (Energy Management Systems) and electrical safety standards.
Energy Management & Optimisation
- Identify, design, and implement energy optimisation and power efficiency initiatives across sites.
- Monitor energy consumption, reduce losses, and improve overall electrical system performance.
- Lead energy audits and continuous improvement programmes to achieve measurable cost and carbon reductions.
Capital Projects & Asset Management
- Lead electrical CAPEX planning, budgeting, and execution for greenfield and brownfield projects.
- Review and approve electrical design, specifications, vendor selection, and commissioning activities.
- Ensure lifecycle management, reliability, and redundancy of critical electrical assets.
Risk, Safety & Governance
- Establish robust electrical safety governance, risk assessments, and statutory compliance frameworks.
- Investigate electrical incidents and implement corrective and preventive actions.
- Ensure business continuity through system resilience, redundancy planning, and emergency preparedness.
Stakeholder & Vendor Management
- Collaborate with manufacturing, quality, EHS, and corporate engineering teams.
- Manage external consultants, contractors, utilities, and OEMs to deliver safe and compliant outcomes.
- Provide expert guidance and mentoring to site engineering teams.
Experience & Qualifications
Essential
- 18-25+ years of progressive experience in electrical engineering within pharmaceutical formulations or regulated manufacturing environments.
- Deep hands-on expertise in HT/LT systems, substations, UPS, DG sets, and critical power infrastructure.
- Strong exposure to GMP/cGMP environments with successful regulatory inspection experience (USFDA preferred).
- Proven track record in energy optimisation, electrical audits, CAPEX execution, and compliance management.
Desirable
- Degree in Electrical Engineering (mandatory); postgraduate qualification preferred.
- Certification or demonstrated experience in ISO 50001 implementation.
- Experience managing multi-site engineering operations at a senior leadership level.
