Rana Group - Business Head - Biogas

Location: HO at Chandigarh

Reports To: MD / Directors

Role Overview:

The Head of Biogas Business is responsible for end-to-end leadership of the biogas vertical, including strategy, project development, operations, financial performance, partnerships, and expansion. This role owns the P&L and drives growth across biogas/CBG projects-from feedstock sourcing to gas offtake and monetization.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategy & Business Growth:

- Define and execute the overall biogas/CBG business strategy aligned with company goals

- Identify new opportunities across agricultural waste, municipal waste, industrial waste, and captive biogas/CBG use

- Lead market entry, expansion, and scaling of biogas plants

- Evaluate new technologies, business models, and policy incentives

Project Development & Execution:

- Oversee project feasibility studies, DPRs, site selection, and approvals

- Manage EPC partners, technology providers, and contractors

- Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to performance standards

Operations & Asset Management:

- Lead operations and maintenance of biogas/CBG plants

- Drive plant efficiency, uptime, gas yield, and cost optimization

- Implement safety, quality, and environmental compliance standards

Feedstock & Supply Chain:

- Develop long-term feedstock sourcing strategies and contracts

- Manage relationships with farmers, aggregators, municipalities, and industries

- Ensure consistent feedstock quality, quantity, and logistics

Sales, Offtake & Partnerships:

- Secure gas offtake agreements (CBG, power, thermal, industrial, or grid injection)

- Build partnerships with OMCs, utilities, industrial customers, and regulators

- Negotiate commercial contracts and pricing structures

Financial & P&L Ownership:

- Own full P&L responsibility for the biogas business

- Drive revenue growth, cost control, and profitability

- Lead budgeting, forecasting, funding, and investor engagement

Policy, Regulatory & Stakeholder Management:

- Navigate renewable energy, waste management, and environmental regulations

- Engage with government bodies, regulators, and industry associations

- Track policy developments (subsidies, carbon credits, incentives)

Team Leadership:

- Build, lead, and mentor cross-functional teams (projects, operations, commercial)

- Set performance goals and foster a high-ownership culture

Qualifications & Experience:

- Engineering, Energy, Environmental Science, or MBA (preferred)

- 12-20+ years of experience in biogas, CBG, renewable energy, waste management, or related infrastructure sectors.

Preferably from Big Oil/Refinery Company

- Proven experience in scaling businesses and managing large projects

- Strong understanding of biogas technology, feedstock economics, and regulatory frameworks

- Demonstrated P&L and leadership experience
