
Job Purpose
The AGM - EHS & Sustainability will be responsible for leading and overseeing all Environment, Health, Safety, and Wastewater Management functions across the organization, particularly in sugar and distillery operations. The role will ensure regulatory compliance, operational safety, environmental sustainability, and efficient functioning of ETP/STP/ZLD systems, while driving a strong safety and environmental culture across all plants.
Key Responsibilities
1. Strategic Leadership - EHS & Environment
- Develop and implement the overall EHS and Environmental strategy for the organization.
- Establish policies, systems, and frameworks for environmental protection, occupational health, and safety management.
- Drive a culture of safety, compliance, and sustainability throughout the organization.
2. Environmental Compliance & Regulatory Management
- Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and approvals including:
- Environmental Clearance (EC)
- Consent to Establish (CTE)
- Consent to Operate (CTO)
- Hazardous Waste Authorization
- SGWD permissions
- Liaise with regulatory authorities such as SPCB, CPCB, and MoEFCC for approvals, renewals, and inspections.
- Ensure timely submission of statutory environmental reports, returns, and compliance documents.
3. ETP / Water & Wastewater Management
- Oversee planning, commissioning, operation, and optimization of Effluent Treatment Plants (ETP), STP, and CPU systems.
- Ensure Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) or full compliance with Pollution Control Board standards.
- Implement advanced technologies for wastewater treatment and water conservation.
- Monitor water quality, effluent discharge, and environmental impact from plant operations.
4. Environmental Monitoring & Sustainability
- Establish systems for air, water, soil, and noise monitoring in accordance with regulatory norms.
- Lead initiatives for resource efficiency, waste reduction, and environmental sustainability.
- Drive implementation of 3R (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) principles across operations.
- Promote green initiatives, emission control, and pollution prevention programs.
5. Waste & Resource Management
- Develop strategies for management of:
- Hazardous waste
- Fly ash
- Waste sludge
- Industrial effluents
- Ensure environmentally responsible disposal, recycling, and reuse practices.
6. Health & Safety Management
- Lead implementation of Occupational Health & Safety policies and systems.
- Establish hazard identification and risk assessment processes.
- Ensure availability and proper use of PPE and firefighting equipment.
- Monitor safety compliance across plant operations and contractor activities.
7. Emergency Planning & Risk Management
- Develop and implement On-Site Emergency Plans and Disaster Management systems.
- Ensure emergency preparedness including fire safety systems, drills, and training programs.
- Lead investigations of incidents, accidents, and environmental deviations.
8. Training, Awareness & Safety Culture
- Develop and implement EHS training programs for employees and contractors.
- Promote awareness of environmental protection, safety practices, and compliance requirements.
- Strengthen the Safety Committee and employee participation programs.
9. Audits, Inspections & Compliance Reviews
- Lead internal and external EHS audits.
- Prepare plants for regulatory inspections by authorities.
- Monitor corrective actions and continuous improvement initiatives.
10. Cost Optimization & Operational Efficiency
- Optimize operational costs for ETP, pollution control systems, and environmental compliance activities.
- Ensure maximum operational efficiency with minimum environmental impact.
- Implement cost-effective sustainability initiatives.
Qualifications
- M.Sc. Environmental Science / M.Tech / B.Tech Environmental Engineering
- Additional certifications in EHS / Safety Management / Environmental Management will be preferred.
