Introduction:
The H T Parekh Foundation was established in 2012, to commemorate the birth centenary of Mr. H. T. Parekh, the visionary Founder and Chairman of erstwhile HDFC Limited (HDFC). HDFC has since merged with HDFC Bank w.e.f. 1.7.2023.
The Foundation commenced operations in 2014. In its first decade of giving, it operated as the philanthropic arm of HDFC, implementing its Corporate Social Responsibility mandate. Since the merger in mid-2023, the Foundation has transitioned to being an independent, domestic philanthropy.
Their areas of support include ReVIVE (our flagship initiative on Urban Climate Change), Doorbeen (a Childrens library and literature initiative) and a small, multi-sector portfolio of exemplary legacy partners.

The Role:
A senior level position for our flagship programme ReVIVE, focused on climate adaptation - resilience in Indian urban locations (Tier 2/3 cities). Our key intervention at present is on Extreme Heat, supporting data - research, innovation (cooling solutions), demonstration projects on ground and policy advocacy for solutions towards heat adaptation. The programme works at the intersection of Urban Heat on health and livelihoods for people with differential access. The Programme Head will report to the CEO of the Foundation.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Developing a detailed programme design, approach and operational plan with clearly defined timelines, budgets, possible collaborations, goals and resource requirements, which are aligned to government budgets and priorities
- Identification, evaluation, due diligence and monitoring of specific projects/grantees for implementation in the cities of choice
- Building innovation for affordable cooling solutions into the programme design
- Building - managing government relationships at both the city and state level
- Building and leading an internal team, based in Mumbai for the above programme
- Displaying leadership qualities to work with multiple stakeholders i.e. implementations partners, technical experts, relevant government functionaries, Board and team members, to ensure there is clear alignment of goals
- Creating opportunities for collaborations and scaling the programme with other like-minded funders, academia and similar organisations
- Establish HTPF as a thought leader for this area within the next 5 years.

Required Experience and Competencies:
Academic:
Master's Degree or higher: Development Studies, Environmental Science, Climate Change, Sustainable Development, or a related field.
Additional certifications: Specialized training or certifications in urban climate resilience, sustainable urban development, project management (e.g., PMP), waste management or related areas are advantageous.
Work Experience:
- 15 years or more of development sector experience which should include managing - leading programmes across multi-locations, of which 10 years or more should be in the urban climate/sustainability sector
- Experience of designing and building programmes from ideation to scale
- Ability to build relationships and work with municipal governments, urban planners, NGOs, - academia
Key Personal Attributes:
- Display of strong leadership skills to manage projects and people (both internal - external)
- Flexibility to adapt to changing project demands
- Build and mentor a competent programme team comprising mid-level persons
- Willingness to be hands on for the project execution and close attention to detail
- Flexible to travel and spend time at the project sites on a regular basis
- High levels of integrity, ethics and empathy in handling all professional relationships
- Good communication skills in English, with working knowledge of Hindi and Marathi (desirable)
