ROLE OVERVIEW


The Product Line Manager is responsible for driving the end-to-end strategy, development, and commercial performance of assigned product lines. This role combines strategic thinking with operational rigour - overseeing product roadmaps, new product launches, revenue achievement, cost optimisation, and cross-functional collaboration with Sales and technical teams. The incumbent will act as the commercial and technical custodian of the product line, ensuring sustained competitiveness and profitable growth.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES


1. Product Line Growth


- Develop and manage a comprehensive product line strategy aligned with company goals and business objectives.

- Own and drive achievement of Product Line Revenue targets.

- Manage product roadmaps, prioritising features and functionalities based on market demand and business priorities.

- Oversee the full product lifecycle - from ideation through to retirement - ensuring relevance, competitiveness, and profitability at every stage.

- Define and communicate clear product vision, mission, and value proposition to internal and external stakeholders.

2. New Product Development (NPD)

- Lead the NPD process end-to-end: requirements gathering, business case preparation, validation, approvals, and market launch.

- Monitor and grow Opportunity Value, including Attributed Revenue and Dependent Value, from business case conversion through to product release.

- Ensure new products are delivered on time, within budget, and to defined quality standards.

- Apply Stage Gate discipline to all NPD initiatives, ensuring structured decision-making at each phase.

3. Focus Product Sales

- Achieve a minimum of 15% Focus Product Sales as a proportion of respective Product Line revenue.

- Identify, prioritise, and actively promote focus products in collaboration with the Sales team.

- Track focus product performance against targets and course-correct as needed.

4. Cost Optimisation & Value Engineering (VAVE)

- Identify potential products for Value Analysis & Value Engineering (VAVE) through Margin Erosion reports and competition landscaping.

- Build and convert business cases for VAVE initiatives to protect and improve product margins.

- Maintain close oversight of product costs to pre-empt margin erosion and drive sustainable profitability.

5. Sales-PM Interactions & Cross-Functional Collaboration

- Conduct technical Product & Application presentations during Sales-PM Meetings, targeting an overall assessment score.

- Drive Sales-PM Cross-Functional Team (CFT) reviews covering:

- Technical issues and resolutions

- Product Line growth initiatives

- Projects and orders in pipeline

- Deployment of product strategies

- Focus Products mapping

- NPD status updates

- Running list of open action items

6. Average Selling Price (ASP) & Performance Monitoring

- Monitor product performance metrics - including sales volumes, profitability, market share, and customer satisfaction - and

identify areas for improvement.

- Track Average Selling Price trends across the product line and take corrective action where ASP erosion is identified.

- Leverage Margin Erosion reports and competitive analysis to inform pricing and portfolio decisions.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & COMPETENCIES


Technical & Functional Knowledge


- In-depth understanding of assigned product lines, features, and applications.

- Strong command of Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) principles and practices.

- Expertise in New Product Development (NPD) and Stage Gate process methodology.

- Technical knowledge of electrical components and their applications.

- Experience in market research, competitive analysis, and competitor product evaluation - including identification of strengths, weaknesses, and potential threats.

Commercial & Strategic Skills


- Ability to develop and execute product strategies aligned with overall business objectives.

- Proficiency in analysing product performance data and making data-driven commercial decisions.

- Experience managing multiple product lines and prioritising competing demands effectively.

Leadership & Cross-Functional Capabilities


- Ability to lead cross-functional teams and drive product success across functions.

- Strong project management skills, including risk management and timeline tracking.

- Capability to lead product launch activities, ensuring timely execution and successful market introduction.

Communication & Presentation


- Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to convey complex technical information to diverse audiences.

- Proven ability to deliver engaging presentations to customers, partners, internal teams, and at conferences or seminars.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

- Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Electrical / Electronics / Mechanical) or related field; MBA preferred.

- 12-15 years of experience with minimum 4 -5 years in Product Management or Product Line Management, preferably in the

electrical / electronic components industry.

- Demonstrated track record of managing product portfolios and launching new products successfully.

- Experience working in a cross-functional matrix environment.
