Job Title: Product Director - Utilities Consulting

Location: Flexible / Hybrid (Client-facing, multi- geography)

- Minimum 5 years in Product Management / Product Leadership

Role Overview:

The Product Director - Utilities Consulting will provide strategic and hands- on leadership across the product lifecycle for digital and business products in the Energy & Utilities sector. This role bridges client consulting, product strategy, and delivery execution, helping utility clients (electricity, gas, water, renewables) define, build, and scale customer- centric and operational products aligned to regulatory, market, and Net Zero objectives.

The role requires strong experience in utilities domain transformation, product operating models, and cross- functional leadership, working closely with senior client stakeholders, engineering, design, and commercial teams.

Key Responsibilities:

Product Strategy & Vision:

- Define and own product vision, strategy, and roadmaps for utility-focused digital and business products

- Translate client and market needs into scalable, value-driven product strategies

Align product roadmaps to utility industry trends, including:

- Smart metering & grid modernisation

- Customer self-service & digital billing

- Asset & field service management

- Decarbonisation, renewables, and flexibility markets

- Regulatory change and compliance programmes

- Drive product innovation aligned to Net Zero and sustainability goals

Consulting & Client Leadership:

- Act as a trusted advisor to C-level and senior client stakeholders

Lead product-centric consulting engagements including:

- Product discovery and business case development

- Product operating model definition

- Digital transformation and platform modernisation

- Support pre-sales, proposals, and solution shaping for utilities clients

Product Lifecycle Management:

- Own end-to-end product lifecycle - ideation, discovery, delivery, launch, scale, and optimisation

- Define clear value metrics, KPIs, and OKRs to track product success and ROI

- Manage and prioritise complex multi-product backlogs across programmes and clients

Delivery & Ways of Working:

- Partner closely with engineering, UX, data, and delivery teams to ensure outcomes are achieved

- Champion Agile and Product-led delivery models (Scrum, SAFe, Lean, hybrid)

- Ensure alignment between business outcomes, customer experience, and technical feasibility

- Drive continuous improvement in product governance, tooling, and delivery practices

Leadership & Capability Building:

- Mentor and lead Product Managers, Product Owners, and Business Analysts

- Build and scale product capability within consulting teams

- Contribute to utilities product thought leadership, accelerators, and reusable assets

Required Experience & Skills:

Experience:


- 12+ years overall experience in consulting, digital, or technology roles

- 5+ years in Product Management / Product Leadership

Strong experience in Energy & Utilities, including one or more of:

- Electricity, Gas, Water utilities

- Retail, Networks, or System Operations

- Smart Metering, Billing, CRM, CX, FSM, or Asset platforms

- Proven experience leading large-scale digital or product transformation programmes

Core Skills:

- Product strategy and roadmap ownership

- Stakeholder management at senior and executive levels

- Business case development and value realisation

- Agile / SAFe / Product operating models

- Customer-centric design and discovery practices

- Data-driven decision making and KPI definition

- Pre-sales, proposal support, and commercial awareness

- Technical & Platform Awareness (Desirable)

- Utility platforms (e.g. Billing, Meter Data Management, CRM, FSM)

- Cloud-native and SaaS product environments

- API-led, platform, and ecosystem-based architectures

- Data, analytics, and AI use cases within utilities

- Education & Certifications (Preferred)

- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Technology, or a related field

- MBA or equivalent business qualification (preferred)

- Product / Agile certifications (e.g. SAFe POPM, Scrum, Pragmatic, Scrum Product Owner)
