Principal (VC Fund)

Function: Thesis building, Due diligence, Deal initiation and closure, Portfolio Management

Direct reports: Director, Investment Indirect reports: Managing Director, CIO

Location: Bangalore (On Site)

Role Summary:

We seek a Principal with at least 5 years of direct investment experience in tech startups to evaluate opportunities, shape theses with founders, and engage the ecosystem.


Reporting to the Head of Investments, this role drives sourcing to closure in deeptech and fintech sectors. Strong understanding of electronics, hardware, AI is very essential for success in this role.

Key Responsibilities:

- Evaluate investment opportunities by sourcing, screening, and conducting detailed research on startups raising capital, including analysis of technology, business models, financials, and competitive positioning.

- Collaborate with founders to develop and refine investment theses, conduct deep dives into business models, and provide strategic guidance across pre- and post-investment phases.

- Perform in-depth industry and market research using global and domestic data sources, including value chain mapping and identification of key participants.

- Track early-stage deals, funding trends, and transaction benchmarks across the startup ecosystem.

- Liaise with legal counsel to support deal structuring, documentation, and closure processes.

- Lead deal processes, including managing diligence teams, financial modelling, term sheet negotiations, and investment committee recommendations.

- Track portfolio performance and prepare periodic notes and reports.

- Support portfolio companies on operations, growth, and exit planning, while monitoring performance against fund IRR targets (30%+ over 7 years).

- Engage with the startup ecosystem by building networks with founders, co-investors, accelerators, and events to drive proprietary deal flow and syndication.

Essentials:

- Extensive reading and in-depth research on a regular basis.

- Curious to explore emerging areas of technology and business.

- Exposure to deeptech, fintech ecosystem - working knowledge of businesses and key metrics

Salary s CTC:

CTC Performance Incentives Relevant experience required

We seek candidates with a unique blend of leadership, interpersonal and analytical skills. In addition to functional responsibilities, the candidate is expected to act as a key engagement point with investors and other market participants for portfolio companies. The ideal candidate will take ownership of research, contribute strategic insights, and represent the firm with professionalism across internal and external forums.

Qualification:

- 5+ years direct VC investing in tech startups (pre-seed to Series A), with a proven track record of sourced and closed deals. (Engineering or technical degree-B.Tech/M.Tech or equivalent preferred, but not mandatory.)

- Advanced analytical skills for modelling and tech diligence essential. Self-driven multitasker, capable of working independently and collaboratively within a team.

- Strong industry research skills, including primary (on-ground) research capabilities.

- Excellent oral and written communication skills (mandatory).

- High level of discretion and professionalism in handling confidential information.

- Adaptable and comfortable working in a fast-paced, demanding environment.

- Team-oriented, resilient, and deeply passionate about long-term investing.

- Proficiency in PowerPoint and Excel is essential.

- Only candidates with traditional VC experience will be considered; crowdfunding platform backgrounds are not a fit.
