Role Overview:
The ideal candidate should have substantial experience in independently handling litigation matters, drafting pleadings and legal documents, appearing before courts/tribunals, and advising clients on contentious and regulatory matters.
Exposure to data protection, privacy, technology laws and DPDP compliance will be an important requirement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Advise clients on the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 and applicable rules/regulations.
- Assist clients in developing and implementing data privacy and data protection frameworks and compliance programs.
- Review and draft Privacy Policies, Data Processing Agreements, Data Protection Clauses, Consent Notices, Data Sharing Agreements and related documentation.
- Advise on obligations of Data Fiduciaries and Data Processors, including consent, notice, data processing, retention and security requirements.
- Assist in assessing and managing data breaches, privacy incidents and regulatory risks.
- Conduct privacy/data protection audits and gap assessments and provide actionable recommendations.
- Advise on data protection requirements in commercial transactions, employment arrangements, technology agreements and vendor contracts.
- Monitor developments in Indian data protection and privacy law and advise clients on their potential impact.
Desired Skills & Competencies:
- 7 - 8 years of post-qualification experience from a reputed law firm, chambers or established legal practice.
- Strong and demonstrable experience in litigation and dispute resolution.
- Practical understanding and hands-on exposure to DPDP Act, 2023 and data privacy laws.
- Excellent drafting, legal research and analytical skills.
- Ability to independently handle matters and take ownership of assignments.
- Strong court craft and understanding of litigation strategy and procedures.
- Excellent communication and client-management skills.
- Ability to work under tight timelines and manage multiple matters simultaneously.
Preferred Background:
- Candidates with experience in a leading law firm, established litigation practice, corporate law firm or specialist privacy/data protection practice will be preferred.
- Candidates having a combination of litigation and technology/data privacy/DPDP advisory experience will be particularly suitable for this position.
