Practice Manager - Canada/US Accounting/Payroll & Tax - CA/CPA

Role & responsibilities:

- Lead and scale a growing team handling monthly bookkeeping, payroll processing, and tax compliance for Canadian SMEs and businesses.

- Own end-to-end delivery quality, timelines, and client satisfaction for all accounting and tax engagements.

- Act as the main liaison with Canadian clients and partner CPAs: understand requirements, set expectations, and provide regular updates.

- Review work for accuracy and compliance with CRA rules, GST/HST, provincial sales tax, T-slips, and Canadian payroll regulations.

- Ensure timely month-end close, reconciliations, and financial reporting (P&L, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow).

- Build and monitor SOPs, checklists, and quality controls for all processes; continuously improve workflows as the practice scales.

- Track KPIs: turnaround time, error rates, client satisfaction, utilization, and profitability.

- Coordinate training on QuickBooks Online Canada, Xero, Sage 50 Canada, and Canadian tax and payroll requirements.

- Support business development: prepare proposals, respond to RFPs, assist in onboarding new clients, and identify upsell opportunities.

- Manage resource planning, hiring, and performance reviews in coordination with leadership.

Preferred candidate profile:

- CA/CPA or equivalent preferred; relevant certifications in Canadian tax/payroll are a plus.

- Strong knowledge of Canadian accounting, payroll, and tax compliance (CRA, GST/HST, T1/T2, payroll deductions, T4/T4A, etc.).

- Hands-on experience with QuickBooks Online Canada, Xero, Sage 50 Canada, or similar platforms.

- Proven experience managing offshore teams serving US/Canada clients, with ability to scale processes and people.

- Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) with ability to interact confidently with Canadian CPAs and business owners.

- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and client-handling skills; comfortable working in a fast-growing setup.
