Job Title: Plant Operation Manager Department: Mining / Crushing / HEMM Location: Central Africa Reports to: Deputy General Manager Job Responsibilities: 1. Overall Plant Operations - Manage the end-to-end operations of the mining site, crushing units, HEMM fleet. - Ensure optimal coordination between different departments for uninterrupted production. - Monitor day-to-day operations to ensure maximum efficiency and safety. 2. Mining & Geology Oversight - Supervise exploration, geological surveys, and ore body assessments. - Implement short-term and long-term mine planning based on geological data. - Ensure optimal utilization of mineral resources with minimal environmental impact. - Conducts site surveys and performs research and analyses on mines; collects survey data to evaluate and prepare Plans, Specifications, and Estimates (PS&E) for various project improvements. 3. Crushing Plant Management - Oversee operations of crushers, screens, and conveyors to ensure consistent material flow. - Optimize crushing parameters for desired output quality and quantity. - Monitor wear and tear and plan timely maintenance to reduce breakdowns. 4. HEMM (Heavy Earth Moving Machinery) Operations - Ensure availability and productivity of HEMM equipment (excavators, dumpers, loaders, dozers, etc.). - Coordinate preventive and breakdown maintenance schedules with maintenance teams. - Track equipment utilization, fuel consumption, and operating efficiency. - Ensure operator training and compliance with machine handling protocols. 5. Production Planning & Control - Prepare and implement daily, weekly, and monthly production schedules. - Track actual vs. planned production and take corrective actions as needed. - Aligning production with project deadlines and supply chain requirements. 6. Safety, Health & Environment (SHE) Compliance - Enforce strict adherence to safety protocols for all machinery and personnel. - Conduct regular safety drills and toolbox talks. - Ensure environmental compliance, including dust control, water management, and waste disposal. 7. Maintenance Coordination - Implement a preventive maintenance system across all units: mining, crushing, and HEMM. - Reduce downtime through proactive inspections and timely interventions. - Maintain maintenance logs and equipment history for audit purposes. 8. Resource & Inventory Management - Maintain adequate stock of spare parts, consumables, fuel, and raw materials. - Liaise with procurement for timely replenishment. - Reduce wastage and improve material handling efficiency. 9. Manpower Management - Supervise plant supervisors, engineers, technicians, operators, and contract labor. - Provide skill development training and ensure high morale and productivity. - Enforce discipline, attendance, and performance monitoring. 10. Reporting & Documentation - Prepare reports on production, downtime, maintenance, fuel usage, and equipment performance. - Document all operational activities for management and regulatory bodies. - Maintain shift-wise and daily logbooks and MIS reports. - Administer contracts and budgetary expenditures. Prepare clear and concise reports. - Manage, coordinate and supervise the work of technical and clerical staff, inspection, and contract personnel. Interpret, apply, and ensure compliance with pertinent federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations. 11. Cost Control & Budgeting - Monitor and control operational costs across departments. - Assist in budgeting and forecasting exercises for the plant. - Identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising safety or quality. - Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. - Participates in the development and administration of assigned program budget; forecasts funds needed for staffing, equipment, materials, and supplies; monitors and approves expenditures; recommends adjustments as necessary and ensure that projects are completed on time and within budget. 12. Stakeholder Coordination - Coordinate with project teams, QA/QC departments, and site engineers. - Liaise with regulatory authorities for mining licenses, environmental clearances, and safety inspections. - Build strong relationships with vendors, contractors, and third-party service providers. - Work independently in the absence of supervision. Requirements: - Bachelor's degree in B.E./B.Tech in Mining Engineering or Geology or Mechanical. - Hold at least 15-20 years of related experience (Mining / Crushing / HEMM - MMR) - Bilingual and fluent in both English & French. - Experience of working internationally (African experience added advantage) - Implementation of ERP software, hence to parallelly run on two software till the software is fully implemented. - Should be able to pass the various entries in the software as required from time to time
