Role Overview:
We are looking for an experienced MDM Lead with 10+ years of experience in Master Data Management, Data Governance, and enterprise data transformation, preferably within the Oil & Gas / Energy industry.
The MDM Lead will be responsible for defining and implementing the organization's Master Data Management strategy across key domains such as Material, Vendor/Supplier, Customer, Asset, Equipment, Location, and Plant data. The role will work closely with business stakeholders, IT teams, data owners, and functional teams to establish high-quality, standardized, governed, and trusted master data.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the MDM strategy, roadmap, implementation, and continuous improvement across the organization.
- Establish and maintain Master Data Governance frameworks, policies, standards, processes, and controls.
- Define data ownership, stewardship, accountability, and governance structures across business functions.
- Manage master data domains including Material/Product, Vendor/Supplier, Customer, Asset/Equipment, Plant/Location, and Chart of Accounts.
- Lead data standardization, harmonization, cleansing, enrichment, deduplication, and data quality initiatives.
- Define and implement data quality rules, KPIs, dashboards, and monitoring mechanisms.
- Work with business and IT teams to establish data creation, modification, approval, and retirement workflows.
- Lead MDM integration with enterprise applications such as SAP, Oracle, ERP, procurement, maintenance, supply chain, and other operational systems.
- Support data migration and transformation initiatives during ERP, S/4HANA, cloud, or digital transformation programs.
- Define and maintain data models, taxonomies, hierarchies, naming conventions, and classification standards.
- Coordinate with Data Owners and Data Stewards to resolve data quality and governance issues.
- Lead MDM implementation projects, including requirements gathering, solution design, testing, deployment, and post-go-live support.
- Develop business cases, project plans, resource requirements, and implementation roadmaps.
- Manage MDM vendors, implementation partners, and offshore/onshore teams where applicable.
- Establish data governance practices aligned with enterprise architecture, security, compliance, and regulatory requirements.
- Drive adoption of MDM and data governance processes across business units and operational sites.
- Prepare executive-level reports and dashboards on data quality, governance maturity, MDM adoption, and business value.
Oil & Gas Domain Responsibilities:
The candidate should understand master data challenges associated with Oil & Gas operations, including:
- Upstream, Midstream, and/or Downstream business processes.
- Asset and equipment hierarchy management.
- Plant, facility, functional location, and equipment master data.
- Materials, spare parts, and MRO master data.
- Supplier and contractor master data.
- Procurement and supply-chain data.
- Maintenance and reliability data.
- Product and customer master data.
- Standardization of technical specifications and material descriptions.
- Data harmonization across multiple plants, refineries, terminals, projects, and operating companies.
Required Skills & Experience:
- 10+ years of overall experience, with significant experience in MDM, Data Governance, Data Quality, or Enterprise Data Management.
- Strong experience leading enterprise MDM programs or large-scale data transformation initiatives.
- Experience working with ERP environments, preferably SAP / SAP S/4HANA.
- Strong understanding of MDM concepts, data governance, data quality, metadata, reference data, and data lifecycle management.
- Experience with one or more MDM platforms such as SAP MDG, Informatica MDM, Reltio, IBM MDM, Stibo Systems, or similar platforms.
- Strong understanding of data integration and ETL concepts.
- Experience with data profiling, cleansing, matching, merging, survivorship, and duplicate management.
- Knowledge of SQL and experience working with enterprise databases is preferred.
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
- Experience managing cross-functional teams and implementation partners.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and project-management capabilities.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, Data Management, or a related discipline.
- Certification in Data Management / Data Governance / MDM is an advantage.
- Experience with DAMA-DMBOK principles is preferred.
- Oil & Gas / Energy industry experience is strongly preferred.
- Experience with SAP S/4HANA transformation, SAP MDG, or enterprise data migration programs is highly desirable.
