Role Overview:

We are seeking a seasoned logistics professional to join our operations in Nigeria as the Deputy Head of Department for Clearing & Forwarding. In this pivotal role, you will oversee the end-to-end lifecycle of import and export shipments, ensuring seamless movement of goods across complex regulatory landscapes. You will act as the primary bridge between our internal supply chain teams, external customs authorities, and global freight partners to eliminate bottlenecks and optimize lead times. By driving operational excellence and maintaining stringent trade compliance, you will directly influence the companys bottom line, ensuring that our supply chain remains resilient, cost-effective, and fully aligned with international trade standards.

Key Responsibilities:

- Direct the end-to-end customs clearance process for all import and export consignments to ensure zero-delay operations and adherence to Nigerian trade regulations.

- Lead and mentor a large, multi-disciplinary team of clearing agents and logistics coordinators to foster a culture of high performance and accountability.

- Negotiate and manage strategic relationships with freight forwarders, shipping lines, and port authorities to secure competitive rates and priority handling for our cargo.

- Implement robust trade compliance frameworks to mitigate risks associated with documentation errors, tariff classifications, and regulatory audits.

- Analyze logistics performance metrics and identify process improvements to reduce operational costs and enhance overall supply chain efficiency.

- Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders, including procurement and finance, to ensure accurate financial reporting and timely payment of duties and levies.

Required Skillset:

- Demonstrated expertise in navigating complex customs clearance procedures and international trade laws, specifically within the Nigerian regulatory environment.

- Proven ability to lead large-scale logistics operations, with a track record of managing high-volume import/export activities for large organizations.

- Exceptional negotiation and stakeholder management skills, capable of influencing external partners and internal leadership to achieve strategic objectives.

- Strong analytical mindset with the ability to interpret data to solve complex logistical challenges and optimize trade operations.

- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to articulate technical logistics requirements to diverse teams and government agencies.

- A degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, or a related field, complemented by a deep understanding of global freight forwarding practices.

- High degree of adaptability and resilience, with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, on-site operational environment in Nigeria.
