To fuel this growth, we are seeking a seasoned Area Sales Manager with deep FMCG experience to lead our sales strategy and execution in key markets.
Role Summary:
The Area Sales Manager (ASM) will be responsible for driving sales growth, expanding distribution, and building strong retail and institutional partnerships.
This role requires a balance of strategic thinking, on-ground execution, and team leadership to achieve aggressive growth targets.
The ASM will work closely with distributors, super stockists, modern trade partners, Q-commerce platforms, and institutional clients (HORECA, corporates, bulk buyers) to deliver market share, revenue growth, and brand visibility.
Key Responsibilities:
Sales & Business Development:
- Drive primary and secondary sales across Modern Trade, Q-Commerce, and Institutional channels.
- Develop and implement sales strategies to meet monthly, quarterly, and annual revenue targets.
- Expand product reach through modern trade accounts, online grocery platforms, and institutional buyers.
- Execute new product launches and ensure successful penetration across channels.
Channel & Distribution Management:
- Identify, onboard, and manage distributors, super stockists, and channel partners.
- Build and sustain strong relationships with modern trade accounts, Q-commerce partners (Blinkit, Zepto, Swiggy Instamart, BigBasket, etc.), and institutional clients.
- Negotiate trade margins, schemes, and promotions to maximize sales efficiency.
Team Leadership:
- Lead, mentor, and motivate a field sales team to deliver high productivity.
- Set sales targets, track performance, and ensure corrective action plans where necessary.
- Build a culture of accountability, ownership, and performance orientation.
Market Expansion & Brand Building:
- Spot market gaps and opportunities to position the brand effectively.
- Collaborate with marketing and trade activation teams for brand visibility campaigns.
- Drive in-store activations, sampling, and consumer engagement programs to boost recall and conversions.
Insights & Reporting:
- Track competitor activities, pricing trends, and trade schemes.
- Gather consumer feedback to improve product positioning and innovation.
- Analyze sales data, prepare reports, and present actionable insights to management for decision-making.
Candidate Profile:
Experience & Industry Fit:
- 7-10 years of FMCG sales experience, preferably in ghee, honey, staples, or allied food categories.
- Proven success in handling Modern Trade, Q-Commerce, and Institutional channels.
- Prior experience in startup environments, brand launches, or scaling challenger brands will be a strong advantage.
- Strong distributor management, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
Education:
- Graduate in Business, Marketing, Agriculture, or Food Technology (or related fields).
- MBA/PGDM preferred, though not mandatory for candidates with strong field sales expertise.
Skills & Competencies:
Strong business acumen with an ability to balance short-term sales and long-term brand building.
Excellent negotiation, interpersonal, and communication skills.
High level of ownership, resilience, and execution orientation.
Strong analytical skills and comfort with data-driven decision-making.
