Operations Manager (Shipping & Logistics)

Location: Mumbai, India

Position Overview:

We are seeking an experienced Operations Manager to oversee and optimize shipping operations for bulk carriers and oil tankers within our petroleum manufacturing division. The ideal candidate will bring strong expertise in maritime logistics, compliance with international shipping regulations, and operational excellence in managing large-scale petroleum shipments.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Shipping Operations Management:

- Oversee end-to-end shipping operations for bulk carriers and oil tankers transporting petroleum products.

- Ensure timely vessel scheduling, loading/unloading, and port coordination.

- Monitor fleet performance, voyage planning, and cargo handling efficiency.

2. Compliance & Safety:

- Ensure adherence to IMO (International Maritime Organization) regulations, MARPOL standards and DG Shipping regulations and other global shipping compliance requirements.

- Implement and monitor safety protocols for hazardous cargo handling.

- Liaise with port authorities, customs, and regulatory bodies.

3. Logistics & Supply Chain Coordination:

- Collaborate with supply chain, production, and sales teams to align shipping schedules with business needs.

- Optimize freight costs, chartering agreements, and vendor contracts.

- Manage relationships with shipping agencies, freight forwarders, and third-party logistics providers.

4. Operational Excellence:

- Drive process improvements to enhance efficiency and reduce turnaround times.

- Implement digital tools for shipment tracking, documentation, and reporting.

- Prepare operational reports, KPIs, and performance dashboards for senior management.

5. People Management:

- Mentor shipping coordinators and logistics staff.

- Build a culture of accountability, safety, and continuous improvement.

Qualifications & Experience:

- Bachelors degree in Maritime Studies, Logistics, Supply Chain, or Petroleum Engineering (Masters preferred).

- 10+ years of experience in shipping operations, with at least 5 years handling bulk carriers and oil tankers.

- Strong knowledge of petroleum product logistics and hazardous cargo management.

- Proven track record in fleet operations, chartering, and port coordination.

- Familiarity with ERP systems, SAP (MM/SD), and shipping management software.

- Excellent leadership, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
