Job Description: Operations Head

Location: Lagos, Nigeria

Role Overview:

The Operations Head will be responsible for managing and optimizing end to end logistics operations, ensuring cost efficient, timely, and reliable movement of goods. The role combines operational leadership with strategic planning to support business growth and service excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

This is a dual role for managing Inhouse Fleet Operation for the wheat milling business (the largest for any wheat miller in Africa with plans for doubling this number in the next 3 years). In addition to this the role also involves being part of the S&OP process and support in monthly volume delivery for the business via 3rd party trucks.

Fleet Management:

- Deliver month on month KPIs - Total Mileage (Kms), Revenue /Kms and overall fleet bottom line.

- Align the fleet objectives with Milling Team with an aim to deliver the overall business volume delivery.

- Operations & Efficiency: Fleet Asset planning based on plant wise demand generation.

- Route Optimization: Develop efficient routes, schedules, and fuel management strategies to maximize profit and reduce costs.

- Maintenance & Operations: Work with the Workshop team to schedule preventative maintenance, oversee repairs, and ensure vehicles are safe and compliant with transportation regulations with an aim to maximize vehicle utilization.

- Driver Management & Safety: Recruit, train, and supervise drivers, ensuring adherence to safety protocols and monitoring behavior.

- Technology Utilization: Utilize GPS and fleet management software to track vehicles and analyse data.

- Safety & Compliance: Ensure all vehicles and drivers comply with local laws, safety standards, and insurance regulations. Maintain detailed compliance records.

- Cost Control: Analyze data on fuel consumption, maintenance costs, and vehicle mileage to reduce operational expense.

- Fleet inventory management along with the purchase team for spares, tyres, and diesel, fuel purchase at an optimal cost. Work towards exploring new vendors to reduce reliance on few.

Logistics & Warehouse Management:

- Work closely with S&OP team and Business Teams on a monthly basis to align on monthly plant, factory wise demand.

- Oversee day to day logistics operations, ensuring smooth execution across transportation, warehousing, and distribution.

- Monitor schedules, service levels, and costs to meet customer and business requirements.

- Manage logistics budgets effectively while identifying opportunities for cost optimization and efficiency improvements.

- Continuously identify and eliminate inefficiencies across logistics processes, warehouse design, and transportation networks.

- Implement scalable and sustainable logistics solutions aligned with business growth.

People Leadership:

- Lead, motivate, and develop logistics teams to ensure high performance and engagement.

- Support workforce planning, recruitment, and capability development.

Stakeholder & Vendor Management:

- Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders, customers, and external vendors.

- Negotiate contracts and service agreements to achieve optimal cost and service outcomes.

Candidate Profile:

Qualifications & Experience:

- MBA from a top tier institute (Sales, Marketing, Operations, or Agri business preferred).

- 10 - 12 years of post MBA experience in logistics, operations, or supply chain roles.
