Job Summary
GMPL is seeking an experienced Manager - Operations (Projects & Special Cargo) to lead end-to-end planning, execution, and operational management of Over-Dimensional Cargo (ODC) shipments. The role requires expertise in cargo planning, vessel coordination, customer management, rate negotiations, inventory optimization, and operational compliance to ensure efficient and profitable cargo movement.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Cargo Planning & Execution:
- Manage end-to-end planning and execution of ODC and special cargo shipments.
- Coordinate with internal departments and external stakeholders to ensure smooth cargo movement.
- Develop shipment strategies aligned with customer requirements and vessel schedules.
Rate Management & Customer Negotiations:
- Prepare and negotiate freight quotations while maintaining profitability.
- Standardize pricing structures based on market trends and operational feasibility.
- Work closely with commercial and pricing teams to optimize revenue opportunities.
Vessel & Booking Coordination:
- Ensure timely booking allocation in operational systems and with shipping carriers.
- Coordinate vessel space requirements, including feeder service arrangements when required.
- Monitor carrier bookings and ensure accurate updates of rates, vessel schedules, and voyage information.
Inventory & Equipment Management:
- Oversee container allocation and inventory planning activities.
- Coordinate with inventory and maintenance teams for container availability and certifications.
- Ensure availability of Empty Container and CSC certificates as per carrier requirements.
- Optimize equipment utilization and turnaround times.
Customer & Stakeholder Management:
- Maintain proactive communication with customers regarding shipment schedules and cargo readiness.
- Ensure timely updates on container pickup status, documentation requirements, and VGM cut-offs.
- Coordinate ODC approvals and permissions with carriers and operational teams
Operational Oversight & Compliance:
- Monitor booking forecasts and align them with vessel schedules.
- Review and approve cargo dimension changes while coordinating revised pricing approvals.
- Ensure seamless SOC/COC container linking and operational compliance.
Performance Monitoring & Process Improvement:
- Track key operational performance indicators and service levels.
- Drive process improvements to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and improve customer satisfaction.
- Implement best practices for operational excellence.
Post-Shipment Activities:
- Ensure timely sharing of onboard confirmations with customers.
- Oversee completion of RCVS and LODF entries after shipment confirmation.
- Monitor post-shipment documentation and reporting activities.
Required Qualifications:
- Degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Shipping, Maritime Studies, or a related field.
- Relevant experience in Shipping, Logistics, Freight Forwarding, Project Cargo, or Container Operations.
- Strong understanding of ODC cargo handling, vessel operations, container management, and carrier coordination.
- Experience in freight pricing, customer negotiations, and stakeholder management.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and team management skills.
- Proficiency in shipping and logistics management systems.
