
Role Purpose
To provide strategic leadership, policy governance, and risk mitigation for Industrial Relations (IR) at a national level. This role ensures a harmonious labor environment, enterprise-wide statutory compliance, and operational continuity across all regions by establishing robust frameworks and acting as the ultimate authority on complex labor disputes.
Key Accountabilities
1. National Strategy & Policy Governance
Design & Standardize:
- Formulate the overarching, pan-India Industrial Relations strategy and long-term roadmap aligned with macro business objectives.
- Framework Architecture: Author, standardize, and maintain the national IR playbook, policy frameworks, and standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure operational consistency across all business units.
Executive Advisory:
- Act as the primary strategic advisor to executive leadership and the Board on macro-labor trends, socioeconomic shifts, and long-term workforce risks.
2. Enterprise Risk Management & Final Escalation
Crisis Leadership:
- Act as the ultimate commander and principal authority for major national or regional labor crises, union strikes, or severe operational disruptions.
- Predictive Risk Mitigation: Establish and oversee an early-warning risk matrix to proactively identify and neutralize potential industrial flashpoints before they impact business continuity.
Litigation Oversight:
- Govern high-stakes legal strategies, final-stage conciliations, and landmark labor litigations that carry enterprise-wide precedent or financial risk.
3. Macro Compliance & Audit Governance
Legislative Intelligence:
- Monitor, interpret, and translate evolving central and state labor legislations (including the new Labor Codes) into actionable, business-ready policies.
Governance & Audit:
- Define the corporate labor compliance audit framework. Oversee third-party or internal gap analyses, forcing corrective action plans across all regions.
Regulatory Representation:
- Serve as the primary corporate representative at central tripartite forums, national labor ministries, and apex government bodies.
4. Vendor & Indirect Workforce Compliance Frameworks
Vendor Gatekeeping:
- Establish the compliance parameters, ethical standards, and statutory governance rules for all third-party vendors and contractors operating nationwide.
Commercial Alignment:
- Partner with Procurement and Supply Chain to embed mandatory statutory compliance and fair wage administration clauses into national vendor contracts.
Indirect Risk Management:
- Provide the legal and operational boundaries for managing disciplinary actions and grievances within the indirect workforce to eliminate co-employment risks.
5. Institutional Capability & Leadership Mentorship
- Regional Enablement: Functionally lead, mentor, and build the technical capability of Regional IR managers, preparing them for localized negotiations.
Education & Culture: Drive the creation of targeted educational programs on progressive labor management, conflict resolution, and statutory mechanics for line managers and HR business partners.
