National Credit Manager - Housing Finance
Key Responsibilities:
1. Credit Policy & Underwriting Framework
- Develop, review, and update credit policies and underwriting guidelines for all housing finance products (Home Loans, LAP, Affordable Housing, etc.).
- Ensure alignment of credit policies with regulatory norms (RBI/NHB) and internal risk appetite.
- Implement automated and manual credit decisioning systems to ensure consistency and scalability.
2. Portfolio Quality Management
- Monitor credit portfolio performance across geographies and products.
- Identify early warning signals, analyze delinquency trends, and take corrective actions in coordination with business teams.
- Develop and implement portfolio stress testing and scenario analysis frameworks.
3. Credit Approval & Oversight
- Provide high-level credit approvals as per delegation of authority (DOA).
- Lead the Central Credit team in reviewing and sanctioning high-value proposals.
- Ensure proper documentation, adherence to approval conditions, and overall credit hygiene.
4. Team Leadership
- Build, mentor, and lead the credit appraisal and underwriting teams across regions.
- Conduct regular training on credit assessment, fraud prevention, and regulatory updates.
5. Technology & Process Optimization
- Collaborate with Product, Tech, and Operations teams to digitize and automate credit processes (LOS/LMS integration).
- Enhance TAT and productivity while ensuring robust credit checks.
6. Regulatory & Internal Compliance
- Ensure compliance with RBI/NHB regulations and internal audit recommendations.
- Coordinate with auditors, regulators, and internal risk teams for credit-related matters.
7. Stakeholder Management
- Act as a strategic advisor to Business, Risk, Collections, and Product teams on credit matters.
- Support investor and board-level reporting on credit portfolio performance and risk metrics.
Key Skills & Competencies:
- Strong understanding of retail housing finance products, customer profiles, and credit risk.
- Expertise in credit appraisal, financial analysis, risk scoring, and credit policy design.
- Proficient in regulatory norms governing HFCs and NBFCs in India.
- Analytical mindset with strong data interpretation and problem-solving skills.
- Leadership, team management, and cross-functional collaboration.
- Familiarity with credit bureaus, underwriting platforms, and credit analytics tools.
Preferred Background:
- Prior experience in a leadership credit role within a Housing Finance Company / NBFC / Bank.
- Experience with technology-driven credit assessment platforms is a plus.
