Business Development Manager - SME Business - Commercial Insurance
Chola MS General Insurance (Murugappa Group) is hiring a Business Development Manager - SME Business to drive growth across the SME / Commercial Insurance segment through agency and broking channels.
This is a mid-senior level role focused on new business acquisition, partner activation, and revenue growth within the SME insurance ecosystem.
Role Overview:
The incumbent will be responsible for expanding the SME portfolio, onboarding and activating brokers/agents, and driving consistent premium growth through strong market presence and partner engagement.
Key Responsibilities:
1. New Business Acquisition
- Identify, onboard, and activate SME brokers and agents through market outreach
- Generate new business opportunities within the SME/commercial segment
- Build and maintain a strong pipeline of partners and clients
- Drive top-line growth through new account acquisition
2. Sales & Target Ownership
- Own and deliver monthly, quarterly, and annual premium targets
- Drive partner recruitment, activation, and productivity
- Increase business contribution from existing and dormant partners
- Ensure continuous business flow from mapped channels
3. Partner & Relationship Management
- Manage and strengthen relationships with brokers and agency partners
- Conduct regular market visits, partner meetings, and joint client interactions
- Act as a single point of contact for partner support and engagement
- Enable partners in deal closures through active coordination
4. Product & Process Enablement
- Provide guidance on SME/commercial insurance products including property, liability, marine, and engineering
- Support partners on quotations, portal usage, and policy issuance processes
- Coordinate with underwriting and operations teams for seamless execution
5. Business Activation & Growth Strategy
- Drive partner activation and engagement through structured follow-ups
- Identify new markets, sectors, and opportunities within the SME segment
- Plan and execute joint calls for high-value deal closures
Skills & Qualifications:
- 3-7 years of experience in SME / Commercial Insurance
- Strong exposure to Agency / Broking channels
- In-depth understanding of insurance products, underwriting basics, and distribution models
- Strong relationship management, negotiation, and networking skills
- Target-driven with a strong ownership mindset
- Good understanding of insurance platforms and processes
Eligibility Criteria:
Graduate (MBA preferred)
Age: Up to 35 years
Strong local market exposure preferred
Willingness to work in a field-oriented role
