Job Purpose:

The Mechanical Manager will be responsible for the overall mechanical maintenance, reliability, and engineering activities of a continuous polymerization plant. The role involves ensuring safe and reliable operation of reactors, extruders, pumps, compressors, gearboxes, heat exchangers, piping systems, utilities, and other rotating and static equipment. The position will lead the mechanical maintenance team, develop preventive and predictive maintenance programs, manage shutdowns and turnarounds, and ensure compliance with company HSE and engineering standards.

Key Responsibilities:

- Manage all mechanical maintenance activities for continuous polymerization production units.

- Ensure maximum availability and reliability of critical production equipment.

- Supervise maintenance of polymerization reactors, extruders, pelletizers, pumps, compressors, gearboxes, heat exchangers, vessels, cooling-water systems, process piping, and packaging equipment.

- Develop and implement preventive, predictive and corrective maintenance programs.

- Monitor equipment performance and identify recurring failures and reliability issues.

- Lead root-cause analysis (RCA) and implement corrective actions.

- Plan and execute annual/periodic plant shutdowns and major maintenance activities.

- Prepare maintenance budgets, manpower plans and spare-parts requirements.

- Manage mechanical contractors and maintenance service providers.

- Review equipment specifications, drawings, maintenance procedures and technical documentation.

- Support plant modifications, equipment installation and commissioning projects.

- Ensure critical mechanical spare parts are identified and maintained at appropriate stock levels.

- Coordinate with Production, Electrical, Instrumentation, Process and HSE departments.

- Ensure maintenance activities comply with Nigerian statutory requirements and applicable international engineering standards.

- Implement permit-to-work, isolation/LOTO and mechanical safety procedures.

- Conduct equipment inspections and ensure defects are identified and rectified promptly.

- Maintain accurate maintenance records, equipment history and KPI reports.

- Develop and monitor KPIs such as equipment availability, MTBF, MTTR, maintenance cost and planned-maintenance compliance.

- Lead and develop mechanical engineers, supervisors, technicians and contractors.

- Promote continuous improvement, reliability engineering and cost optimization.

Required Qualifications:

- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline.

- Professional engineering certification/registration is an advantage.

- Typically 15+ years of mechanical maintenance experience, preferably in petrochemical, polymer, plastics, chemical, fertilizer, refinery or other continuous-process industries.

- At least 3 - 5 years in a managerial or senior supervisory position.

- Strong experience with rotating and static equipment.

- Experience with continuous polymerization or a similar chemical/process plant is highly desirable.

- Good knowledge of maintenance management systems such as SAP PM, Maximo or equivalent.
