Job Title: Marine Underwriter (Cargo, Hull & Liability)


Location: Churchgate, Mumbai


Role Overview:


The Marine Underwriter will be responsible for underwriting complex marine insurance risks across cargo, hull, and liability lines. This role involves evaluating submissions, assessing exposures, determining appropriate pricing and coverage terms, and maintaining strong broker and client relationships to drive profitable growth. The ideal candidate will have deep technical expertise, strong analytical skills, and a keen understanding of global marine market trends.


Key Responsibilities:


- Underwrite and manage a portfolio of complex marine risks, including cargo, hull, and marine liability.


- Evaluate submissions and risk profiles to determine appropriate pricing, coverage, and terms in line with underwriting guidelines.


- Negotiate terms and conditions with brokers and clients to achieve mutually beneficial outcomes.


- Analyze loss history, exposure data, and market trends to support sound underwriting decisions.


- Collaborate with actuarial, claims, and risk management teams to ensure portfolio profitability and technical excellence.


- Maintain and develop strong relationships with brokers, clients, and other market participants to support business growth and retention.


- Monitor global marine market trends, regulatory developments, and emerging risks to adapt underwriting strategies accordingly.


- Contribute to the development of underwriting guidelines, pricing models, and product innovation.


- Participate in audits, reporting, and internal reviews to ensure compliance with company standards and regulatory requirements.


Qualifications & Experience:


- Minimum 15 years of experience underwriting marine risks (cargo, hull, and/or liability).


- Strong analytical and technical underwriting skills with a sound understanding of marine insurance principles.


- Proven track record of profitable underwriting performance and portfolio management.


- Excellent negotiation, communication, and relationship management skills.


- Ability to interpret and apply global market and regulatory developments to underwriting strategy.


- Proficiency in underwriting tools, modeling, and exposure analysis systems.
