- Responsible for managing end-to-end direct and indirect tax compliance, litigation, tax strategies, risk management and tax advisory for a goods-based retail/e-commerce/FMCG organization.
- The role requires strong hands-on experience in GST, direct tax, handling litigations , risk managements, and strengthening tax compliance frameworks while supporting business growth through effective tax strategy.
JOB DESCRIPTION (CA with 1st attempt only)
Key Responsibilities:
1. Tax Compliance
- Preparation and submission of responses to notices/enquiries issued by the direct and indirect tax requirements (e.g., Income Tax, GST/VAT, Withholding Tax, etc.)
- Ensure timely and accurate compliance with all direct and indirect tax Review tax returns, statements, reconciliations, and statutory filings.
- Oversee tax accounting, tax provisions, and disclosures in financial statements.
- Monitor changes in Tax laws and regulations and assess their impact on the business.
2. Tax Litigation & Controversy Management
- Manage tax assessments, audits, inspections, and investigations by tax authorities.
- Prepare and review responses to tax notices, queries, and show-cause notices.
- Coordinate with external tax consultants, legal counsel, and authorities for appeals and litigation.
- Maintain litigation trackers and assess potential financial and operational exposure.
3. Tax Risk Management
- Identify, evaluate, and mitigate tax risks across business operations.
- Develop and implement internal tax controls and governance frameworks.
4. Tax Advisory
- Provide tax advisory support to business, finance, and operational teams.
- Advise on tax implications of transactions, contracts, restructuring, and new business initiatives.
- Support cross-functional teams on tax-efficient decision-making.
- Act as a trusted advisor to senior management on tax matters.
5. Tax Strategy
- Develop and implement tax strategies aligned with business goals and regulatory requirements.
- Drive long-term tax efficiency while ensuring compliance and risk management.
6. Stakeholder & Team Management
- Manage and mentor junior tax team members.
- Liaise with external advisors, consultants, and tax authorities.
- Collaborate with cross functional teams.
Signs of a fit:
- You are a Chartered Accountant (1st attempt) with 3-7 years of hands-on experience in direct and indirect taxation.
- You have managed tax litigation independently, including handling notices, assessments, appeals, and departmental queries.
- You possess strong working knowledge of GST, TDS, and TCS, particularly in goods-based businesses such as retail, e-commerce, or FMCG.
- You have experience in tax strategy, and advisory, and can translate tax implications into practical business guidance.
- You proactively identify tax risks and have implemented controls or frameworks to mitigate them.
- You have worked on strengthening tax compliance frameworks, SOPs, and internal controls.
- You can partner effectively with finance, operations, and external advisors to support business growth.
- You stay updated on changes in tax laws and assess their impact on business operations.
- You take ownership, demonstrate attention to detail, and thrive in a fast-paced retail/e-commerce/FMCG environment.
