Manager - Tax & Finance, Family Office
Mumbai (Prabhadevi) - Family Office - Reports to Chief Investment Officer
About the client
Our client is the single-family office of one of India's most recognised promoter families, the founders of a leading listed consumer-internet company. The family office manages the family's investments, entities and assets across India and overseas, spanning public and private markets, fund commitments, real estate and long-term family structuring.
It is a lean, high-trust setup that works closely with the family and a network of top-tier CA firms, law firms, tax advisors, investment managers and banks.
Role overview:
The family office is looking for a tax-led finance professional to take ownership of tax, accounting and regulatory matters across the family's Indian and international holdings. Direct and indirect tax will make up roughly 80% of the role, covering planning, structuring, filings, assessments and advisory.
This is an individual contributor role that works directly with the Chief Investment Officer. The right person will not just coordinate advisors but bring their own judgment to the table, challenge advice where needed, and drive matters through to closure with little hand-holding.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Direct & Indirect Tax:
- Own direct and indirect tax matters across domestic and overseas holdings, including tax planning, filings, assessments and advisory
- Evaluate the tax implications of investments, exits, transactions and restructuring, and review related documentation
- Manage assessments, notices and appeals with tax advisors and counsel, and drive them to resolution
- Advise on cross-border matters including DTAA, withholding tax and overseas investment compliance
2. Accounting, Reporting & MIS:
- Oversee accounting, financial reporting and reconciliations across family entities and holdings
- Coordinate with internal and external accounting teams for timely and accurate finalisation
- Prepare and review periodic MIS and dashboards covering investments, assets, liabilities and cash flows
3. Structuring, Regulatory & Legal:
- Manage financial, tax and regulatory matters across Indian and international entities and investments, including FEMA requirements
- Work with legal advisors on agreements, documentation and ongoing compliance
- Support the family and its advisors on succession planning, estate matters, trusts and holding structures
4. Investments & Real Estate:
- Track investments across private and public markets, including portfolio reporting, documentation and cash flows
- Act as the interface with investment managers and advisors on reporting and compliance
- Support real estate matters, including documentation, compliance and transactions
5. Advisor Management & Execution:
- Work closely with CA firms, lawyers, tax advisors, investment managers and banks to ensure timely execution
- Track open matters and independently drive them to closure
Ideal profile:
- Qualified Chartered Accountant (strongly preferred); an LLB is a plus
- 6 - 12 years of post-qualification experience with strong direct tax depth
- Advisory experience in M&A tax, funds and investment tax, international tax or structuring
- Working knowledge of indirect tax (GST) and FEMA
- Exposure to accounting, finalisation or tax provisioning
Preferred background:
- Big 4 or top-tier tax firm, in-house tax role at a large group, or a wealth management platform's family office desk
- Experience with promoter families, family offices, trusts or holding structures
- Exposure to overseas holdings, cross-border investments or fund structures
- Experience handling assessments and litigation alongside advisory work
Mindset & Fit:
- Strong ownership and comfort working as an individual contributor
- Sound technical judgment and the confidence to engage senior advisors as an equal
- High discretion, integrity and comfort dealing with sensitive family matters
- Organised and execution-focused, able to run several matters in parallel
