Objective:

To ensure safety is embedded in all capital projects from concept to commissioning by integrating process safety, construction safety, and risk management into project design and execution. The role will partner with engineering, projects, contractors, and plant teams to prevent incidents and ensure safe project delivery.

Key Responsibilities:

Safety in Project Design & Engineering

- Integrate safety requirements from project conceptual stage through detailed engineering

- Review plant layouts, equipment design, and process schemes for inherent safety

- Participate in design reviews, HAZID, HAZOP, and risk assessments for new projects

- Ensure compliance with internal standards and statutory safety requirements.

Construction & Execution Safety

- Develop and implement project-specific safety plans and procedures

- Conduct site safety inspections during construction and installation phases

- Monitor contractor safety performance and ensure adherence to safety standards

- Ensure safe practices for high-risk jobs (work at height, lifting, confined space, hot work, etc.)

Process Safety in Projects

- Ensure completeness of Process Safety Information (PSI) for new plants/processes

- Drive Management of Change (MOC) compliance for project modifications

- Participate in SIL reviews, consequence analysis, and safety interlock reviews

- Ensure safeguards and critical protection systems are properly implemented

Pre-Commissioning & Startup Safety

- Lead Pre-Startup Safety Reviews (PSSR)

- Verify readiness of procedures, training, interlocks, and emergency systems

- Ensure closure of safety action items before commissioning approval

- Support safe startup and stabilization of new facilities

Compliance & Documentation

- Ensure compliance with local statutory rules and corporate safety standards

- Maintain project safety documentation, checklists, and audit records

- Participate in internal and external safety audits

Capability & Coordination

- Conduct safety trainings and inductions for project staff and contractors

- Support incident investigations related to project activities

- Work closely with plant EHS, process safety, and engineering teams.

Education

- B.Tech / B.E. in Chemical Engineering

- Advanced qualification in Sustainability / Environment / Energy Management preferred

Work Experience

- 12-15 years of experience in chemical/process industry safety

- Strong exposure to project safety, construction safety, and process safety integration

- Experience in greenfield/brownfield plant projects preferred

- Exposure to specialty chemical or hazardous process industry desirable

Knowledge

- Good understanding of HAZOP, HAZID, PSSR, MOC, and permit systems

- Knowledge of process equipment risks, chemical hazards, and storage safety

- Familiarity with contractor safety management and project risk control

- Understanding of relevant statutory safety requirements

Skills

- Strong coordination skills with engineering and project teams

- Ability to influence contractors and project managers on safety priorities

- Good analytical, documentation, and communication skills

- Hands-on approach to field safety monitoring
