Role Purpose

The Logistics & Distribution Manager will lead and optimize end-to-end inbound and outbound logistics operations within a manufacturing environment. The role focuses on strategic freight cost optimization, service-level excellence, compliance, and team leadership while ensuring seamless movement of raw materials and finished goods.

Key Responsibilities:

- Lead outbound logistics operations, including dispatch planning, route optimization, and distribution of finished goods to customers across regions.

- Oversee inbound logistics for raw materials such as waste paper, chemicals, fuels, and consumables, ensuring timely and cost-efficient supply.

- Drive freight cost optimization initiatives through network planning, route rationalization, vehicle utilization improvement, and contract negotiations.

- Own transporter and logistics service provider management, including onboarding, performance evaluation, SLA governance, and dispute resolution.

- Ensure full compliance with statutory, documentation, and indirect tax (GST) requirements related to logistics and transportation.

- Oversee warehouse, dispatch, and yard operations to ensure safety, accuracy, FIFO adherence, and operational efficiency.

- Collaborate with sales, production, and commercial teams to align delivery schedules, resolve service issues, and improve customer satisfaction.

- Prepare, analyze, and present detailed logistics MIS, dashboards, and KPI reports to senior management.

- Lead, mentor, and develop logistics, warehouse, and dispatch teams, driving accountability and continuous improvement culture.

- Identify and implement process improvements, automation, and system enhancements to improve logistics efficiency and scalability.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):

- Freight cost per metric ton and cost optimization savings

- On-Time In-Full (OTIF) delivery performance

- Vehicle placement, turnaround, and dwell time

- Transit damage, loss, and shortage percentages

- Demurrage, detention, and penalty cost control

Qualifications:

- Bachelors degree in Engineering, Logistics, Operations, or a related discipline.

- MBA or Postgraduate Diploma in Supply Chain / Logistics preferred.

Experience:

- 8-12 years of progressive experience in logistics and distribution within manufacturing or process industries.

- Prior experience in paper, paper board, packaging, or similar heavy manufacturing environments strongly preferred.

- Proven exposure to large-scale outbound distribution and complex inbound material logistics.

Key Skills & Competencies:

- Strong logistics strategy, planning, and execution capabilities

- Expertise in freight negotiation, cost modeling, and transporter management

- Hands-on experience with ERP systems, logistics MIS, and performance dashboards

- Strong stakeholder coordination and leadership skills

- Ability to manage multi-location operations and cross-functional teams
