Role Overview
CA Qualified only The Indirect Tax Consultant will be responsible for providing advisory, compliance, review, and litigation support across GST/Indirect tax domains. The role involves working closely with clients across industries, analyzing tax implications of transactions, supporting audits, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Indirect Tax Advisory
- Provide technical advisory on GST applicability, tax positions, classification, valuation, place of supply, and input tax credit.
- Review business transactions and recommend tax-efficient structures.
- Provide guidance on contractual terms, pricing, and tax clauses.
- Assist clients with impact analysis for new tax amendments, circulars, and notifications.
2. Compliance & Reporting
- Manage monthly, quarterly & annual GST compliances, including:
GST returns (GSTR-1, 3B, 6, 9/9C)
Reconciliations (books vs. returns, vendor reconciliation, etc.)
- Review tax workings prepared by client teams.
- Ensure adherence to statutory timelines and maintain compliance checklists.
3. Litigation & Audit Support
- Assist clients during departmental audits, GST investigations, and regulatory notices.
- Draft replies for show-cause notices, appeals, and submissions before authorities.
- Coordinate with legal teams for advance rulings, appellate proceedings, and case law research.
4. Process Optimization & Risk Management
- Identify gaps in clients indirect tax processes and recommend controls and improvements.
- Support implementation of technology solutions, automation tools, and compliance management systems.
- Conduct GST health checks and diagnostic reviews.
5. Client Engagement & Relationship Management
- Serve as the primary point of contact for client tax queries.
- Prepare and deliver presentations, training sessions, and technical updates.
- Build strong relationships with client stakeholders and cross-functional teams.
6. Research & Knowledge Building
- Stay updated on latest amendments, case laws, circulars, and global indirect tax trends.
- Contribute to internal knowledge databases, articles, and newsletters.
- Participate in firm-led learning & development programs.
Required Skills & Competencies:
Technical Skills:
- Strong knowledge of GST laws, rules, notifications, and case laws.
- Understanding of customs, foreign trade policy, and other indirect tax legislations (if applicable).
- Experience with ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, Tally) and GST compliance tools.
- Strong analytical and interpretation skills.
Soft Skills:
- Excellent communication (oral & written).
- Client-handling capability and stakeholder management.
- Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.
- Ability to work under tight deadlines and manage multiple assignments.
