Role Overview:

The Manager Fleet & Equipment Repair & Maintenance is responsible for ensuring high availability, reliability, and cost-effective maintenance of the organizations fleet and heavy equipment. The role oversees preventive, breakdown, and predictive maintenance of vehicles and machinery used in operations, while ensuring safety, compliance, and optimal lifecycle management.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Fleet & Equipment Maintenance

- Plan and execute preventive and breakdown maintenance for fleet vehicles and heavy equipment (trucks, tippers, compactors, loaders, excavators, etc.).

- Ensure maximum fleet uptime, availability, and reliability across project locations.

- Develop and enforce maintenance schedules, SOPs, and checklists.

2. Workshop & Vendor Management

- Manage in-house workshops and/or external service vendors.

- Negotiate and monitor AMCs, service contracts, and spare-part suppliers.

- Ensure quality, cost control, and adherence to service-level agreements.

3. Cost Control & Asset Lifecycle

- Monitor maintenance costs, spare consumption, fuel-related issues, and breakdown trends.

- Implement cost-reduction initiatives without compromising safety or performance.

- Support asset lifecycle planning, replacement strategy, and CAPEX justification.

4. Spares & Inventory Management

- Manage inventory of critical spares, consumables, and lubricants.

- Ensure availability of fast-moving and critical spares to reduce downtime.

- Maintain proper documentation and inventory controls.

5. Safety, Compliance & Documentation

- Ensure compliance with vehicle fitness, statutory permits, insurance, OEM guidelines, and safety standards.

- Conduct root cause analysis (RCA) for major breakdowns and accidents related to equipment failure.

- Maintain maintenance records, logbooks, and audit documentation.

6. Team Leadership & Coordination

- Lead and guide maintenance engineers, supervisors, technicians, and mechanics.

- Coordinate with Operations, Fleet Planning, SCM, and Safety teams for deployment and maintenance planning.

- Train teams on best practices, safety protocols, and equipment handling.

Education B.E / B.Tech / Diploma Mechanical / Automobile / Electrical

Experience 8 to 15 years in fleet & heavy equipment maintenance

Industry Fit Waste Management, Logistics, Construction, Mining, Infrastructure, Utilities

Technical Skills Preventive maintenance, breakdown analysis, hydraulics, electricals, engines

Systems CMMS / ERP / Excel-based maintenance tracking

Attributes Hands-on, field-oriented, cost-conscious, strong people management
