
Finance Manager - Duties & Taxes:

Job Summary:
The Finance Manager - Duties & Taxes will lead the Duties & Taxes function within Record to Report (RTR), with responsibility for accounting, compliance, controls, reconciliations and governance. The role will manage a finance team, drive stakeholder alignment across business units and regions, and lead process transitions and continuous improvement initiatives using Quality Decision Making (QDM) and Lean/Six Sigma methodologies.
Note: This is a functional finance role managing the Duties & Taxes process within RTR and is not a taxation-focused role.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership & People Management:
- Lead, mentor and develop a high-performing Duties & Taxes finance team.
- Set objectives, conduct performance reviews and support employee development.
- Manage workload allocation, RACI, succession planning and team capability building.
- Promote accuracy, ownership and continuous improvement within the team.
Stakeholder Management & Governance:
- Partner with Finance Leadership and cross-functional teams to align on policies, transaction treatment and risk management.
- Represent the function in SteerCo/PMO forums and present dashboards, issue logs and remediation plans.
- Manage interactions with external consultants and auditors.
- Drive timely resolution of complex issues and escalations.
Accounting, Compliance & Controls:
- Oversee accounting for customs duties and taxes paid at clearance and customer re-billing.
- Ensure accuracy of GL accounting, provisions, accruals, true-ups and journal approvals.
- Oversee Balance Sheet reconciliations and ensure timely resolution of aged items.
- Maintain strong internal controls, including approvals, segregation of duties and data-quality checks.
- Ensure audit readiness and closure of control gaps and audit observations.
Process Transition & Continuous Improvement:
- Lead transition of Duties & Taxes processes to new operating models.
- Apply QDM, Lean/Six Sigma and structured problem-solving methodologies.
- Drive process improvement using DMAIC, Kaizen, root-cause analysis and value-stream mapping.
- Develop future-state process maps, SOPs, RACI, control matrices and SLAs/OLAs.
- Identify opportunities for automation and standardization.
- Lead Knowledge Transfer (KT), training, change management, hypercare and process stabilization.
Technology & Data:
- Partner with IT on system design, configuration and process enhancements.
- Improve data quality through standardized templates, validations and reconciliations.
- Develop dashboards and reporting using Advanced Excel / Power BI.
- Implement exception monitoring and metrics dashboards for proactive risk management.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
Education:
- Bachelor's / Master's degree in Accounting, Finance or related field.
- Professional qualification such as CA / CPA / ACCA or equivalent preferred.
Experience:
- 12 years of overall Finance experience.
- 3 - 5 years of people management experience.
- Experience in finance process transition and continuous improvement.
Functional Skills:
- Strong understanding of accounting principles, GL controls and reconciliations.
- Experience in Duties & Taxes accounting, P2P/RTR or related finance operations.
- Strong stakeholder and team management skills.
- Experience with ERP systems such as SAP, Oracle or MS Dynamics.
- Advanced Excel skills including PivotTables, Lookups and Power Query.
- Power BI/dashboarding experience preferred.
- Lean/Six Sigma experience or certification preferred.
- Exposure to Shared Services / GBS environments preferred.
