About the Role:
We are looking for an experienced and result-oriented Deputy Manager / Manager - Business Tax (Direct Tax) to join our Tax Consulting team in Mumbai. The selected candidate will be responsible for handling a range of corporate tax compliance, advisory, and litigation assignments, primarily focused on domestic taxation, with some exposure to international tax matters.
This role demands in-depth technical knowledge, strong leadership skills, and the ability to manage client relationships independently. You will work closely with senior leadership and clients across sectors, delivering tailored solutions in a fast-paced, consulting environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Direct Tax Compliance & Advisory:
- Lead and oversee domestic direct tax compliance activities including:
- Preparation and review of income tax returns
- Tax audit reports and related schedules
- Advance tax computations and TDS compliance
- Advise clients on matters related to corporate tax planning, tax deductions, MAT calculations, and recent changes in tax laws
- Interpret and apply provisions of the Income Tax Act, Finance Act amendments, and relevant case laws
Litigation & Representation:
- Handle end-to-end litigation support, including:
- Drafting and filing responses to tax notices and appeals
- Representing clients before tax authorities for assessments and appellate proceedings
- Liaising with legal counsels for higher-level representations (CIT(A), ITAT, etc.)
- Maintain proper documentation and ensure adherence to compliance timelines
International Tax Exposure (Secondary):
- Assist in addressing non-resident taxation issues
- Basic advisory on DTAA interpretation, withholding tax, and cross-border transactions
- Coordinate with transfer pricing teams as required
Client Relationship Management:
- Act as a primary point of contact for allocated clients
- Ensure timely, high-quality delivery of services
- Address client queries effectively and propose value-added solutions
- Participate in client meetings and presentations
Team Leadership & Process Management:
- Supervise and mentor a team of associates and junior consultants
- Review work for technical accuracy and compliance standards
- Ensure optimal utilization of team resources and monitor timelines
- Drive operational excellence and contribute to internal knowledge-sharing
